couple things you can try:
1) Use a harsh shampoo like:
Johnson & Johnson's Baby shampoo (yes, it's very harsh)
or Pert Plus
2) Dawn Dishwashing liquid
Either of these can help lighten without risk to your hair.
If they are working at all, you should notice some color in the water you are rinsing out.
Hope that helps.

I've never done it before, but my friend has. I think what she did is use some sort of product that strips the black dye off your hair and then you are able to re-dye again with a different color.
You could also just called up your hair salon and ask them for suggestions. It's worth a shot at least.
Good luck!

Don't touch it and go to a salon. The reason... home hair color is a metalic dye, because of that it is unstable and can have a really bad reaction. The stylist can use a color remover (try going to a goldwell salon, their's is the best) or lighten it (yes it is bleach). I pray you didn't use ferria because if you did, I'm sorry it will need to grow out.

oooooh, tough one. I know that baking soda helps get out permanent hair dye (you have to build up a paste and scrub hard). That should at least get rid of some if not most of the black. Any color you put over it will not work (trust me I know). The only other option you may have if that doesn't work, would be to start from scratch.....Which means Bleach the hell out of your hair (which will fry it) and then dye over it (I recommend after a few days to let your hair regain some of its natural oils) and then just do intense therapy treatments. Of course another option is shave your head and wait for it to grow out again :)

When you're dealing with permanent dye, you have to wait at least 2 weeks to change the color. I have naturally black hair, in order to get it lighter, you're going to have to dye it a blond and temporarily put a rinse in it to bring it to a brown. Personally I would wait a month before I added a permanent brown color to it. You don't want your hair to fall out. If your hair stylist is willing to change your hair color in a day to the color that you want, I would run. They are only thinking about the money and not the condition of your hair.

well sometimes if it isn't a very good dye, it'll lighten up as you wash your hair so try that, wash your hair like 20-40 times.. yea it sounds like alot but it works on certian dyes. good luck!
