That's sad. Yes, some churches are all about the money because our culture is "all about the money." Only God can judge the hearts of those responsible, but don't be afraid to report your observations to your pastor or elders and it they don't seem interested, perhaps you need a church that's more about people - as you seem to be :) Good luck & God bless. ~Nisa

Yes I was going to a baptist church where we were always being preached to about tithing. I was tithing and supporting a child by myself and had little money for groceries and did not own a car even though I was working very hard. This pastor and his wife both had new SUV's, their kids going to expensive colleges and they have medical and dental insurance for family, yet I had none. They had a big house and nice things and when a homeless woman came for help to church she came home with me. They would not do a thing for her.

Yes I know what you mean. There must be a "balance" in the ministries. Some churches give literally millions of dollars to missions and neglect the needy in their own pews.
Other Churches collect millions and it all goes in the pockets of the church officials-and the members do not see it-that is mostly in some of the Pentecostal churches, not all.

Yes, I don't think you can assume that the money you donate to Church necessarily goes to the poor. In fact, in some Catholic dioceses, a great deal of the money is going to pay off fines and court costs associated with the bishops protecting priests accused of pedophilia instead of protecting the laypeople.

No- although sometimes it does seem like that. I used to think they wanted all my money....all $20.00 of it.
But, as you know, it takes a lot of money to do anything- and that includes helping others.
Are you sure about your Church not helping their members? The reason I asked, is the chruch like some of the rest of us, seem to be taken advantage of- a lot.
My past Church helped and helped and some times they were -for lack of a better word- stolen from.

I have never been to a church where I felt it was about the money. I did listen to a "preacher" once who said, listen closely because the information I'm going to give you is worth a million dollars...and then he passed around the plate and watched. Now THAT guy...was all about money.

I can't speak for every church out there. I can however, speak for the church I attend and tell you that we keep our pantry full of food to willingly give out to hose that come in need. I have personally seen this and know for a fact that it happens there. I know that there are numerous churches out there helping the needy/poor and also their communities.

I believe there are some people who are in a church for the moral gain, but God requires more than acts to get into heaven.
Raising money for charity os a good cause, but if that is your only reason for going to church, you are in it for the wrong reason.
The church itself is not in it for the money. Some people are there for worship, some people are in it for their own reason entirely.
