It's best to check that the air pressure is correct for your vehicle, this would insure good gas mileage.

No, unless you are towing something or you are going to put the vehicle at it's maximum gross weight. In you manual, it should state what your tire pressures are for certain conditions. I would recommend checking your air pressure everytime you fill up.

change it, no. Check it, yes. Better to do it before than to get a flat while you're driving. I'd also check the oil and coolant levels, and bring an extra tank of gas with you (just in case you don't plan well and run out somewhere).

Best bet is to have an oil change and any maintenance done prior to your trip that way you get the best milage for your gas price

No but it's best to verify that they are inflated to proper pressure. It's a good idea to do that every couple of weeks.

I do not agree with Jenn on carrying an extra tank of gasoline - I believe that is illegal.
You can carry Diesel but not gasoline.
