Burnie! wake up, don't you realize osage is a type of wood. You actually know some of the terminology which really freaks me out as to how you came up with such a rediculous answer, no offence but some people do ask serious questions. Ok so you want to build a one piece osage bow. There was a really good article in "Traditional Bowhunter" magazine about a year ago. Even if you can't find that edition pick up one of the magazines, the back pages are filled with advertisements and there are alot of books on the subject that you can order. If you want drop me a line and I will scan the article for you. I have been wanting to make one too, so I have been gathering info. Good luck with your project.

hi there, well sir the first thing you need is a well seasoned piece of springy wood about 2 inches by 3 inches, iron wood should be suttable for this type of bow, it should be 2 thirds the hieght of an average osage brave,(roughly 50 inches as they are a tall people.secondly you need a very sharp draw knife, and a small whittling knife, now the hard part, find a nice shaded area at the back of your house out of the way of the wife and kids, make sure you have a cooler of bud on ice ,have a beer, now take the draw knife and start to hew the stave to approximatly the rough shape of the osage bow, have an other beer, now with the wittler take way all the wood that don't look an osage bow, have another cold one,now take a piece of wet rawhide and wrap it around the handle, attach 2 turkey feathers under the hide, grab another cooly, now you need 47 inches of thin rawhide for the string, grab a beer, loop the string, around the end of the lower limb ,stick your leg betteen the stave and the string bend the stave and put the loop on the top, have a brew, now you have an osage bow. better buy a case or two more of bud and i'll come help ya make the arrows.... your just haveing to darn much fun.

There is a series of books called the Traditional Bowyers Bible that will take you through building a bow step by step. Good luck!
