The friendliest people I have ever met have been those who have experienced a serious illness in their lifetime, i.e. cancer.

People who have been diagnosed with some kind of cancer, whether it's cured or not, are the friendliest people I have ever meet because they have a different outlook on life. They are grateful for being alive and they make the most of everything.

It's just too bad that it takes a serious illness for people to realize how wonderful life can be if you simply choose to be happy.

I have traveled three times to Montreal Canada. The North Africans that I met there were the friendliest people. These are people who spoke French in their own countries so came to Montreal for university. North Africa - Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, etc.

When I swerved to avoid some tire rubber on the freeway and went off the road on the shoulder and struggled for the control of the steering wheel and finally stopped.

A stranger immediately stopped to see if i was ok. He would not leave until i said i was ok. He even had to waive off two other people on the other side of the highway who stopped to see if everything was allright.

Honestly...people in Sudan and Egypt. I never met people who were SO thrilled to meet you, concerned that you were enjoying your visit to their country, and eager to have polite conversations with you. There was this one guy in Egypt, I thought he was going to offer me his sister or something after I said how much fun I was having exploring Cairo. Seriously.

Also have had great experiences in Japan...but you have to get past their social etiquette for public places (never make eye contact with strangers, no speaking on trains, don't breath too loudly, or make noise while turning the pages of books). Still, the Japanese are great!

When I worked on a project in Grand Forks, North Dakota, I could not believe how friendly people were there. I'd like to go back someday.
