This is a very interesting question. I like how it was posed--if you believe in evolution, why do you believe?

The evolutionists that answered, for the most part, have given very short explanations that don't really prove anything

For example, I like the one that Says "I've seen fossils--that proves evolution." No, if you find a fossil all that proves is something died. You can't prove if that being had any offspring or not from a fossil.

Some of the other answer's have been along the lines of "you're an idiot and I shouldn't have to explain this to you--here's a link." Well, the asker didn't ask for a "link" but asked for "why you believe in evolution."

My personal belief is that I do not believe in "evolution" as an origin, but I do believe in basic "variations" (sometimes called "evolution") that occur. I too would like to have an evolutionist explain why they believe what they believe--preferably without getting nasty.

What do you mean by "elaborate"?
If you want me to sit here and try and explain the science of Evolution, then you're out of luck. It would take months.
However, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and provide you with two links. One clearly explains how evolution is both a fact and a theory (yes in science that is entirely possible, look at gravity. There is NO accepted "law" of gravity. Newton wrote one but it's far from accepted) and the other shows that there are liteally thousands of transitional fossils out there (despite the fact that creationists lie and say there isn't)
So there you have it, if you have any questions just ask.

Oh and randy? If you're going to try and insult me, at least try and have grammar and spelling that proves you graduated from the 4th grade. Until you can do that, you'll just be another ill-educated moron to me, and to everyone else...

I'm a Christian of sorts, and yes I believe in evolution. I believe the creation story in the Bible (as well as almost all of the Bible) is a symbolic representation of the story of our spiritual heritage, to be gleaned for knowledge of God and our spiritual journey, but not to be taken literally.

I personally believe that consciousness is a result of the physical Universe and not vice versa, and that consciousness of some sort conceived of a plan to evolve life on this planet, and guided evolution in order to create the physical world we see around us. I believe the purpose of this was that the world would be used as a place where spiritual entities (us) could incarnate in order to experience the physical Universe and to learn lessons about creation and the Universe that they (we) could not without taking on physical form - so Earth is a workshop or laboratory of sorts and evolution was and is still used to build and maintain the workshop, per se.

It is a scientific theory that explains how humans came to exist. I will believe that it is correct until something definitive proves otherwise. There are many other questions like this that have been answered with long lists of proof, so I am not going to waste my time.

People who are obsessed with the "I am not evolved from monkeys" are complete idiots. No one actually says that. Apes and Humans are nearly identical DNA wise, which suggests a common ancestor. There is fossil evidence left of humanoid creatures with ape-like qualities, and to disregard that evidence is idiotic and pretentious.

You have a very good question - but there is no way that I came from a Monkey - Yoda Green surly is a monkey, but I come from human genes - here is another question - Has any monkey evolved into a Human in the last 500 years 1000 years? No - so why should I believe I came from monkeys?

I believe in God and evolution; however, I do not believe in evolution in the "tradtional" sense as it has become in the US. Humans did not decend from primates. [We actually are more closely related to and probably decended from fishes.] I think that it is easier to believe in evolution as I am a science major and I tend to be taught that things "evolve" in the broadest sense of the word.

"does not Evolution sound like an complex racist hoax, meant to reinstate slavery interior the United Slaves of A'Merry'Cow?" ...you could't be intense. "do no longer you concern on your freedom? did no longer evolutionism help human beings like Stalin and Hitler and different huge undesirable wolfs with frightening names, inspire themselves from evolutionist thought?" Nope! you could't be intense with those 2 statements and nonetheless be a human clever adequate to be responsive to a thank you to variety words. EDIT: to make sparkling before you waste time having to write down out one extra element, it is ordinarily stupid for the 1st remark, which has no excuse, and for the 2nd remark for fearing on your freedom in step with paranoia that evolution is inspiring to break all of humanity or something.

Yes, because there are literally thousands of fossils to prove it and I have seen them with my own eyes.
