2WD only two of the wheels are pushing/pulling the car. If it's "rear wheel drive" then the back wheels are pushing it. If it's "front wheel drive", then the front wheels are pulling it.

4WD they all are.

2 wheel drive is where 2 of the wheels have power, either rear wheel drive or front wheel drive. 4 wheel drive has power to all of the wheels. In the military there is 6 wheel drive.4 wheel drive is good off road or in snow.

with 2wd, you only have power driving 2 wheels the other two just roll ..2WD can be rear wheel drive as you see mostly in PU trucks or older vehicles, or it can be front wheel drive which is seen in newer model cars.....

4WD is where you actually have power driving all 4 wheels... very nice for mud bogging or driving in snow... you get one wheel stuck you still have 3 more to help you drive out of it..

there are lots of pros and cons for either type and it really depends on what you will mainly use your vehicle for on which one to chose...

and no its not a silly question...

Two-wheel drive is usually front-wheel drive with the 2 front tiers engaged. Four-wheel is all four wheels engaged. When you here the expression rear-wheel, it's usually only one wheel engaged...right, rear.
