Blood would be a good indicator. I rarely get cramps. They're not obligatory to have a period, however, blood generally is.

When you get your period, you bleed, cramps or not. Now if you are asking "how will i know when i'm getting my period?" that is a different story. Some people get cramps, headache, breast tenderness, bloating, hungry, cranky, any or all of those and possibly other symptoms. You will know after you experience the same symptoms over several cycles. But sometimes its hard to tell if you are going to get your period the first time. I had no symptoms it was just there, now i get all the above symptoms except for cramps. I"m sorry you got such crappy answers your first question. Good luck and don't worry i dont know how old you are but don't worry it will come when it comes and if you are worried talk to your mother or your doctor.

Huh? Was there any blood? If not, you probably missed your period. If there was blood and no cramps, you had a period most likely. Cramps aren't always an indicator of a period, especially in a very young girl. Cramps are more common after the menstrual cycle is well established. If you're worried about it, talk to your doctor.

Katie, I'm not sure what you mean here. Not every woman gets cramps. I am almost 30 and have never had them. When you get your period, you bleed. That's how you would know you got your period.

Sweetie...it is natural to not know the first time until it actually happens. The answers are right so far...you see blood or something darker. You can always ask your mom or trusted adult to help you. You can ask close friends, too. Don't let people tell you it's a stupid question; if you aren't sure and need advice...it's not stupid :) Acting without the advice...that's not so smart. Good question. ;o)

Ummm..... the presence of blood should be a HUGE clue.

Are you even old enough to get your period considering you have to ask that question.

You will bleed profusely from your vaginal cavity for a span of 3-5 days, although certain individuals will bleed for longer than a week.

It's kind of hard to miss.
