My guess is that there is this idiotic notion of the man having to make the first move, the man having to pay for the dates, the man having to cater to the woman's every need, opening doors, driving to the dates, making the reservations, whatever, in the pathetic hope of having her return some token of affection. A load of patriarchal bullshyte if you ask me. All it really does is re-enforces the man's position of authority. He bothers to ask, the provides, he makes the decisions, he has the power. I thought we were living in a time of growing equality? What is so wrong about a woman going up to a man and asking him out? Do men feel threatened by it? Are women afraid of rejection? Get over it people.

It's the way we were raised. To believe that a man should pay for our dinner's, open the door's for us and wait for them to ask us out. Today....anything goes. Women ask men out, pay for their meals and even open the doors for them.
