My boyfriend has an older (I think 98) Pontiac Grand Prix, and it's a L-E-M-O-N.
It's old though, I can't honestly say anything about the newer ones.

Go to a Canadian website and search for Pontiac Pursuit, that is what the G5 is called up there. It is near identical mechanically to a Chevy Cobalt but a little better dressed if that helps any. I think they are good efficient cars, to me they look a lot sportier than the econoboxes from some of the Japanese imports.
Don't listen to the mass generalizers that tell you all of these are good and all of those are bad. I like Toyotas and Hondas too (and have owned a few) but they have their share of issues as well.

I have had 3 Pontiac's and will never buy another mostly because of repair issues. Sometimes the part is cheap but in order to get to it requires a lot of time which equals a large labor bill. Just beware that if anything goes wrong expect to have a large repair bill. If you have ever looked under the hood at the engine compartment you will understand what I'm talking about it's as if they built the car around the engine with no room to spare..But thats just my opinion

I had a Pontiac that never failed me. Always started and got me home on some nights I didn't think it possible. Had 135,000 miles when I got hit by someone running a stop sign, or I bet I would still be driving it today. Pontiac makes a good car.

they are not great....if you have not driven one for an extended period of time, I would suggest you do so. The handling is not great. You can rent one for a weekend at Avis, National or other rental car places...a good way of really seeing if you like the car. GM has deep financial problems right now and that is translating into inferior build quality of their cars...suppliers are being forced to provide cheaper parts to meet GM's demands on price. You can do much better in that price range. Much, much better.

American cars all suck. After 5 years max they're sure to start giving problems. If you want to enjoy a good car that won't give you any trouble on the road, go for a Lexus, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, etc.
