Will the dog be flying alone or will the dog be traveling with someone? If the dog will be traveling alone, he will have to fly in an airline approved carrier in the pet area of the cargo section. This is typically safe...granted the flight will not be more than just a few hours. There will be plenty of ventilation....but it is best to provide a bowl of frozen water (not water or loose ice cubes) inside the carrier...granted the airline will approve of this. The dog will be safe and secure. If the dog weighs 18 pounds or less and will be traveling with someone, most airlines offer an additional option besides the cargo section. The dog will be able to fly on the plane with the human passenger. He will have to be in an airline approved pet taxi/carrier. The carrier will take the place of one carry-on luggage. The carrier will have to stay in the overhead compartment (as if it were baggage) or under the passengers seat. This option is as safe as any person traveling by plane. He will have to stay inside the carrier for the entire trip...no exceptions. It usually only costs about an additional $25 or so for a pet to fly in the passenger area...per each take off. No matter which way a pet flies...proof of current vaccinations will have to be provided prior to an animal boarding a plane.

Yes, it is safe to take your small dog on an airplane.
First........ check with the airline and see if they have restrictions.
If your dog is small enough to fit under your seat in a little carrier you can usually take it inside.

If not you with have to put your pet in the baggage compartment in a carrier. Of course there is a charge. Last time I paid $80 each way.

Some airlines won't let pets travel if the weather is too hot.

depending on the airline it is safe! how small is the dog? if its under 10lbs you can take the dog as ur carry on!! and if its not you can pay a little extra and have the dog in a pressurized cabin. some airlines don't do that so you have to be careful cuz the dog can get dementia if its not in a pressurized cabin. I know all this because i have a min pin and went from houston to germany

It's much safer than putting your dog in the cargo hold. Do get a pet carrier that is the correct size; the carrier should not be too big for the dog; in fact, it should not have much room for the dog to fall around in it because that could hurt your dog. Being beside you during the flight will be reasuring for the dog--and for you. You may want to ask the vet. for a mild tranquilizer/travel sickness pill for your dog. For obvious reasons, avoid feeding the dog for 8-10 hours before travelling. Also, take along a collapsible dog dish and some water.

No one has mentioned that the dog will have to visit the vet prior to leaving for a check up and to get any vaccines that he is lacking. The vet will issue a Health Certificate that you will have to show the airline before he can get on the plane. Call your vet as the exam has to been done within a certain time limit before the flight.

Alaska airlines allows you to take your small pet on board with you. They must be notified when your purchase your ticket. There is a fee and you have to provide proof of immunizations. The dog also has to be in a travel bag or carrier.

Other airlines also have a procedure for this.

My dog loves it.

it is very safe as long as they are in a crate where they need to be. DO NOT try to take a small dog on the plane in a carry on bag. Not only will they not let you, but you could get in trouble for trying. Dogs should not be carry on baggage.

yes; if the dog is small enough to fit in a doggy carry on bag then the airlines allows this. Other wise you have to ship it as baggage in a doggy cage and pay.

Call the airline and tell them. It is perfectly safe, lots of animals have traveled on planes.
