In other words, are Europeans tired of seeing their precious bicycle race won by Americans and had to try and dequalify him?!

They test the yellow jersey holder, the stage winner, and another six random cyclists every stage.

Floyd was the winner of Stage 17, the stage where he came back from more that 8 minutes down, so he was tested. The test showed him positive for elevated testosterone.

Testosterone is a naturally occurring male hormone that is banned when it is found in a ratio greater than 4:1 to another hormone, epitestosterone.

Landis said his test results had nothing to do with doping, and that the high level of testosterone in his body was the result of his natural physiology.

They tested Floyd because he was the stage winner, not because he is American. The fact that the French laboratory that conducted the test on Landis was the same one which was involved in some of the allegations against Lance Armstrong, well that's another question...

I don't see that Europeans have any problem with Americans doing well. It is mainly the Tour de France that just doesn't like the idea of any rider being abnormally good. Isn't Lance suing the French media right now over the last time when they made a big deal about doping and the back up tests proved negative when they retested in another country? If it were not for England and Switzerland retesting everything, I think every cyclist would have been removed from the tour, if it pleased the media. Also, I was under the influence that if Landis passed his pre tour drug test, that testerone wouldn't be effective fast enough to help him.

Yep, because of Lance's success, the European or the French are more keen to scrutinize another American winner than anyone else.

However, even though the Europeans seem like they act very "immature" (i.e. the Leak to the media about the "A" test before the "B" test was done- which is their own policy), Landis or any rider getting caught and being ultimately proven with evidence of doping, I have no sympethy. As we Americans pride ourselves on winning, but winning fairly.

Cheers and good riding!

Yes, all stage winners are tested regardless of nationality. After each stage the Yellow Jersey, stage winner, and two random riders are tested. I'm sure the Europeans are tired of seeing us win the Tour, but the France is the only country not winning anything. Belgium, Spain, Germany, and Italy are all winning big races regularly.

The French people are not out to get America - google the words "French hate America" and see if you find any French sites trashing America. Good luck. You'll find many more sites of Americans bashing French. Happy hating. All the racers are tested - were you paying attention when all the top racers were kicked out for doping before the tour even began????

Let me geuss your American? He cheated, he got disqualified, it dosnt matter if hes american or not. In almsot every sport the winner gets tested for performance enhancers. There not picking on him because hes American. If he was spanish, or french the same tests would of gone on. He cheated, and therefore deserves to get disqualified (By the way im not european)

Yes they would... It is not because he is american... Ullrich, Basso, Mancebo and several other non-american was also excluded without any clear evidence... Why should they? It must be fair for all and when someone (american or non-american) cheats they must be disqualified...
