I want to produce a high quality/fidelity recording of my cat's purr by strapping a microphone to his side (or something). What type of microphone would be best for this purpose and where can I buy one? I know that you can buy (on the web) recordings of cats purring and I even bought one and it's great, but now I want to record my own cat's purr.

PS: I wasn't sure where to categorize this (?). I also asked it under Music.

Have you tried a digital voice recorder. They're small and do not have removable parts on the exterior so it would be (theorically) easy to attach it to its side. They also have an extremely high qwuality recording feature. I recommend the Olympus DS-2 for its size and high quality but if you're serious about this go with the Sony ICDSX25VTP

In a be conscious definite. in extra words: the authentic rationalization for purring is unknown. Cats often purr whilst stroked, or whilst eating. I even have heard a mom cat purring whilst her kittens the place feeding and kittens purr in responce. Cats each so often purr whilst injured or ill, I even have had a cat who became very ill very without postpone and he persisted to purr inspite of the fact he became in an fairly undesirable way (Vet had to place him down) yet One thought i found on line says that it is not a demonstration of showing love yet attempting friendship, to illustrate, whilst a cat is frightened it ought to purr to avert being harm.

I'm not totally certain, but my sister used a small voice recorder to get the heartbeat of her baby while she was pregnant. It sounded sooo cool. Hope this helps.
