Just use lice shampoo and a nit comb. You could possibly use just a nit comb, but its gonna take a while. Clean the sheets, clothes and whatnot.

First things first...keep the child at home & away from others! Next go through the hair w/ a fine tooth comb & try to get rid of as many nits on the hair as possible. It'll be stuck on & will look like dandruff but doesn't come off with a simple swipe. Next, whether you like it or not, get a special lice & egg killing shampoo from the store! You'll have to use it a few times to be sure. Also, go through & either throw out or launder their clothes, bedsheets, etc. VERY THOROUGHLY. You can find lice & egg killing stuff to sprinkle on the carpet too. Be sure to do the same with you & any other family members that are exposed & around the child alot. After doing all that keep the child away from other people until you see no sign of the lice, eggs OR the nits!

Here is what I did...no chemicals. I soaked my childs hair in vegetable oil (I did not have olive oil) I put a shower cap on her for about an hour. Then I washed it all out. I used a lice comb on her and picked out as many nits as I could find. Every nite for about a week I would recheck for any missed nits. Comb and pick them out. I put tea tree oil in her shampoo to be used at least once a week. We also started blow drying her hair after her baths and showers. I bagged up everything (stuffed animals and such) for a couple of months. If It could be washed I washed it in hot water and ran it through the dryer twice. I vacuumed all of the furniture and carpeting and was sure to throw out the bag. I also steam cleaned my furniture and carpeting. It was our one and only experience with head lice. It was 2 years ago. Several of her classmates have been sent home with head lice over the last couple of years and I go ahead and wash her hair with the tea tree oil shampoo and comb out with a lice comb. It is just a precautionary. She has not had it since the first time.

the over the counter lice treatments are PESTICIDES and can be dangerous

if you use the olive oil treatment you must do it 3 nights in a row

you can also use Vaseline.....it is terribly hard to get out

if you use any kind of oil treatment use vinegar to get it out the following day...just put some vinegar & water in a spray bottle, use the fine toothed comb to comb it through, use the vinegar until the hair is very wet, then 'shampoo' with dish washing liquid...this will get the oil out

you have to comb and comb and comb forever to get all of the lice & eggs out....i suggest cutting the hair as short as you are comfortable with

**the metal fine toothed combs work the best

****clean and wash everything in your home with AMMONIA it will kill the eggs and bugs and not fade colors

There is nothing naturally that you can do except try and comb them out but that probably won't even help why don't you want to use the chemical stuff does your child have sensitive skin if so ask the pharmcist there but be some for sensitve skinned children because the longer you wait the worse the situation will become and your childs head is probably itching like crazy so pleasae take of it I am not saying you are a bad parent its just better to handle it before it gets out of control

Even the richest of people have children who get head lice.

Not only do you need to go to the pharmacy and get the correct shampoo, BUT you need to wash all the linens in the house to rid yourself of the eggs that could be there.

Generations have used the shampoo. Right now you don't want your child to suffer and you don't want to spread the lice to anyone else, including you and the family pets (which you should have checked by your vet).

Think with the brain and not the emotions right now.

all these fancy chemicals dont work anyway! You need to wash the childs hair and leave the conditioner in, then go through it with a nit comb, you need to be doing this for about half an hour every night for about 2 weeks, and then do it about 3 times a week to keep them away. Good Luck

get the RID lice kit - it will have everything in it - you didn't say whether or not this is a girl or boy - if a boy shave his head it will save you the nightmare and headache. if a girl - prepare yourself for a long 2 weeks.

follow the instructions on the box for removal from hair - take all hair accessories and put in boiling water if possible. use several trash bags to bag up all stuffed animals, extra pillows, anything that they could have already attached to and put them outside or in a garage - tied up so no moisture or air will get in or out for 2 weeks - after two weeks and you are sure the lice are gone from your child's head and your house - then wash what you can - or throw them all in the dryer for 30 minutes on high and they should be free of lice.

it is important to check your child's head in the morning and at night - remove their bedding each morning and throw it all in the dryer for at least 30 minutes on high. use the rid spray on their bed and in their room each day.

***important - when checking their hair - make sure that you have your hair pulled back - or you will end up with it too - not fun!

Heat is the best source for getting them out of your household items!

Good luck!

You're going to have to use the lice treatments in the store. Its the only surefire way. Dont forget to treat your couches and bed linens and carpets as well. And your hair brushes.
