Her first "big" fight was probably her 1996 bout against Deirdre Gogarty of Ireland. That's the one where she won despite a bad bloody nose, and it led the WBC to recognize her as women's lightweight champion.
After that fight, it seemed like she got more attention - and so did women's boxing - than ever before.

She was already big before the Gogarty fight. Personally, I though Deirdre won that one, but I can see how another person would score it for Martin.
