What music should a Christian not listen to and why?

I listen to all sorts of music. I try to find music that is spiritually uplifting, challenging, fun, restful, or that just rocks. I don't believe that we Christians are necessarily to listen just to Christian music, although music is an important part of our spiritual lives. Of course, we should not listen to music that might tempt us to lead us into temptation. I don't find most such "music" to have much musical merit, anyway.

I would also caution against listening to music in the presence of less mature believers that might cause them to question my sincerity as a believer in Christ. Less mature believers can often become discouraged and disillusioned with the behavior of more mature Christians if they perceive that we are doing something that Christians "shouldn't" do. By the same token, I don't make a habit of flaunting other "freedoms" in the presence of new believers, such as drinking alcohol. I don't hide or mislead about these things, I just choose not to flaunt them.

I hope this is helpful. May God bless and keep you.

I am a Christian and I like modern day music (rock, pop, new age, folk and classic rock). However, if they put down God in the music, even if i like the melody, I won't listen to it. There is plenty of good music out there to choose from. Why listen to any god bashing music? It's pretty simple really. I don't listen to Marylin Manson because he totally mocks Christ and comes off as the anti-christ. Music does effect the mind and alter your feelings and moods. Violent music will not bring you closer to God, will it?

LoL.. be strong in ur faith!!! there's no Should do.. there's what you Want to do. *but* remember..once u truly accept Christ, u will know what is right! u will know how to choose right from wrong, and continue to live in a good path. humans make mistakes, are sinful...but because u are Christian, it means Jesus loves you no matter what u've done in the past, present or future!! if u *feel* in urself that certain music is bad, then by all means, don't listen to it. but there's nothing you should feel u need to do or should do.. what u Feel is right, that will lead the way for u. read Romans 5-8.... u are not guilty. u are free to choose the right path, even tho u stumble once in awhile. and i'm not talking about music, but anything; stop punishing urself if u *want* to listen to rap but are scared too.. do whatever u feel is right, not what others think is right. btw, i LOVE rap and i LOVE rock.... and i LOVE God too! that's ok!! :D

I don't think it would be bad to listen to secular music if it was not vulgar. I listen to Christian music everyday because that is what I like, but on Sunday afternoon after church I listen to a couple of programs that play Big Band Music. Also I love jazz. By the same token anything that makes you look like your are having sex while you are dancing is awful. Also that horrible rap, where everyone holds on to their privates like they are scared they are going to lose them is extremely vulgar. that certainly would not be pleasing to the Lord. The bible says in EVERYTHING, honor and give thanks to Him. You can't do it with vulgarity.

You should listen any music you enjoy just stay away from some of the radical rock and rap. There may to much cursing and singing about some undesirable things like pimps and hoes.
You could listen to instrumental jazz, that's safe. LOL

I'm a christian and Iisten to a variety of music. As long as the songs that I'm listening to aren't filled with cussing, to much sexuality or speaking bad about Jesus.

I do not see why now not. I like a few Christian track... doesn't suggest I must feel it. It's simply best, inspiring even. I can relate it to my God & Goddess repeatedly. Or repeatedly it is simply best track, like Amazing Grace is a lovely tune although I do not feel there may be some thing to be stored from. Wicca is not a faith that thinks it is dangerous or unsafe or threatening to be uncovered to the suggestions & ideals and practices of different religions.
