I brought home a rescue staffie yesterday. She is 4 years old. As far as i know she hasnt got any medical problems. Today ive noticed she is licking her back paw alot so i had a look and she has a sore between her toes. Any ideas what it could be?

I would take your dog to the vet. Your dog could've stepped on something sharp and it could've gotten infected. It could've gotten a bug bite. Or maybe it has allergies or it's just an irritation.

It can be a lick granuloma. It is caused by excessive licking and that would not be suprising in her case. A assume she had a rough go of some sort, at the very least had a change in living situation. Some dogs under stress will lick until a sore forms. Sometimes they do not stop.
See a vet who can tell if an infection has formed. Antibiotics may be needed. Also you can discuss the best way to deal with the licking. Hopefully being in a more stable home will be enough to stop it.

My female staffie has the same problem all the time. She is also a rescue. They are a sensitive little dog and they do get stressed. As a result of this some develop a nervous habit of licking their paws ( kind of like us biting our nails) The more they lick the more sensitive it gets etc. etc. Get to the vet and they can give her a mild steroid cream to reduce the inflammation. Congrats bye the way. You are now the new mum of a fantastic breed of dog. And second hand makes her all the more special. My 3 are all amazing!!!

Ok, first of all bring her to the vet for all shots and testing if you havnt already done so and have the vet take a look at the paw. Not to alarm you but there are deseases out there that animals get that start off as sores and end in something worse so it is pertinent that you have it checked right away. Good luck with your furry new four legged friend.

I rescue for an animal group, and it's not unusual for animals who are stuck in kennels for long periods of time to have some skin problems. Alot depends on how clean there kennels were kept during their stay. I would clean it well with peroxide, and then try to keep it dry and see if it heals. Since she licks it, only put ointment on it if you can bandage it up and keep her from ingesting it. Give it a few days and see how it goes. If there is no improvement, then take her to the vet to have it looked at

Could be an allergy but it could also be caused by stress, how long was she in the rescue centre, some dogs hate been in kennels and start to worry parts of their bodies like feet and tails, other dogs do it out of boredom, she could have even been stung by a wasp or bee, pop her to the vets in case its infected even if it isn't it will put your mind at ease, hope you both become the best of friends and she loves her new home, good luck.

I have a 7 month old staff and he suffers from skin allergies , my vet told me that it is a common complaint in this breed. Its a little bit worse on him because he is white in colour so he more sensitive than darker colours say brindle or black, its actually slightly amusing when he eats something he shouldnt because he turns a pinky colour lol! (sorry i shouldnt laugh). The condition is controllable through their diets , if you go to pets at home or any other good pet shop there is a food on the market called 'The Hills Diet' its quite expensive but it does the trick !
Good luck x

Could be a thorn.
Anyhow, dog like people can get sore feet. You might rub it, a dog will lick it and lick it and lick it and lick it until its raw. I don't think it makes the dog a bad dog or anything. If it looks bad, take it to the vet. Its just like having a baby...you got to take care of it

This is probably a grass seed stuck between her toes. You should get a vet to remove this, as they have the proper instruments, and can treat any infection which may have formed. You need to take her asap, so that any infection does not spread, as you dont know how long she might have been like this.

If the dog wasn't 'fit' to leave the pound, then she would still be there !

I suggest you keep a sharp eye on it, and bathe the sore with 'whitch hazel' you can buy this from a chemist, it costs about £2:00, and will come in use for any other minor aches or sprains or sores, on any animal or human, i always have sum in my cupboard, and i always take some on holiday with me, its a 'natural healing product' and i swear by it.

It even helps bruising come out quicker wen you've knocked yourself, it really is 'brilliant' stuff ! !
