Sorry Georgia keeps going the way of Texas - my state. You'd think we'd be use to the overthrow, but just yesterday, a telephone book was left on our doorstep - all in Spanish! Recently, our apartment building changed hands and suddenly, it has become a haven for Mexicans, so the telephone directory company just assumed we were all Mexicans. Our recent upstairs neighbors have almost caused me to put up a sign on our front door, just inches from theirs, saying "Bienvenidos a Mexico." They have left piles of junk around the small porch which flows into ours. Finally, the manager came yesterday and made them take the four bicycles with flat tires inside. A box of shoes sat there for a couple of weeks, with shoes spilling out all over the porch. A couple of weeks ago, at 4:30 a.m., a bottle of beer came crashing down on our porch from their balcony, scattering beer and glass all over.
About six months ago, we found out that we were paying two hundred dollars more than anyone else here.

We have become surrounded by Spanish-speaking people. No one bothers to speak English. They don't have to.
As far as TV, we have two Spanish-speaking stations and there are probably many more in Austin. About a month ago, our provider, Cox Communications, started broadcasting their commercials in Spanish on Fox, MSNBC and other channels. I have no idea why they did this rather than confining them to the Spanish-speaking channels. I emailed them, but have not received an answer.
I get so discouraged at times, especially when the royalty in Washington say, "we can't deport ten million people." Why? If it's logistics, we send military and machines all over the world. Surely, a superpower (or used to be) such as the US, can send third world illegal aliens packing. And I think there are many more than ten million. That many are in my town alone!

Its unfortunate that we don’t have enough respect for our own heritage and language as Americans, to insist that those who come here, speak the English language. I have an admiration for people who are bilingual or who can speak more than two languages. I think it is a great asset to have. However, what binds a nation together, and mitigates conflict is that we all share something in common. A common language is something that we all should share.
I feel that what is transpiring in your apartment complex is a microcosm for what is going wrong all across America. For the sake of profit, we appease immigrants who refuse to assimilate the language and culture of the country that so graciously accommodates them, and thus they infect this country with the pollution and lawless that made their country an intolerable place to live.
There are unique characteristics and rules that differentiate us from those countries less fortunate than us. It’s the preservation of those characteristics that accord us the fortunate place we have in the world. The minute we stop defending those unique features of our culture, including our language, is the time when we regress to the squalor and havoc that infests those countries that people flee from.
With regards to the TV networks running ads in Spanish, there isn’t much as citizens we can do, since they are private businesses who are free to make a profit anyway they please. The only thing we can do is start a grass roots movement stating that we would boycott companies who broadcast in Spanish because they are contributing to the slow erosion of the American way of life
However, were we can have a greater impact on our nation is in the way our government appeases immigrants who cannot speak English. I think it is high time that we start petitioning the government to enforce that all government documents from city, county, state and federal levels to only publish documents in English. I am talking everything – from voter registration, driver’s license information, and housing deeds, to IRS information. We should bar the use of translators in our government offices. Hence, if an immigrant cannot file taxes properly because all the forms are written in English he will be fined or imprisoned. Ignorance of the English language cannot be used as an excuse because it is incumbent of that person to know what he is filling out. If he cannot pass a driver’s test in English he cannot be given a driver’s license. If he signs real estate papers when he tries to procure a house and he doesn’t understand a rule which ends up costing him thousands more, the law must always side with the seller, because again it is up to owner to understand what is being sold to him.
I find many immigrants to be highly intelligent and enormously resourceful people. All of them are capable of learning the English language to such a degree that they can interact competently with the society around them. Just over 70 years ago there was hardly an immigrant, regardless of what country they came from, that did not try to grasp the rudimentary components of our language within a year or two of arriving here. Even those immigrants from Mexico in the 1950’s spoke English, if not fluently, with at least a 4th or 5th grade comprehension after a few years here. What has changed?
Put simply society’s expectations have changed. Politically correct forces find it too offense to tell someone to conform to our way of life, because through some twisted logic, that smacks of bigotry. Yet no one sees that by allowing people to speak whatever language they want, while completely disregarding our own, we are still practicing bigotry just in reverse; against our own people and heritage. The answer to this dilemma is quite simple. In the past, when American society demanded that an immigrant population assimilate into America life, and mandated having a command of English, the immigrants abided by our expectation. Now that those expectations are gone, and dare I say are reviled, immigrants stay cloistered in their ghettos exploiting our public services without truly contributing to them.
As a son of immigrant parents who did take the effort to speak English, I still believe this is a nation that lives by the motto that we will accept “…your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. ... Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.” All we require is that those who come to us to escape poverty and to find freedom is to give something back by learning our ways. We expected it before from the huddled masses, and since we expected it, they rose up to the expectation. Let us start expecting it again, and the immigrant population will rise up to that expectation again. Then we can stop associating the word immigrant with pariahs and leeches, and start associating the term with what it used to mean; the backbone and strength of this country.

Get over it. Our country is based on immigrants. They need jobs, they come to the states. Your spanish-speaking neighbors are taking below-minimum wage jobs that someone who speaks Englsih wouldn't be forced to take. If all those people were deported, pour country would grind to a halt. Who would be the maids, the nannies, the busboys? Everybody bemefits.
Alos, your ancestors were immigrants, too. They sure as hell didn't speak a word of English when they arrived.

I am sorry you are experiencing this dismay. What can I say that I haven't been saying already for some time now.
Actually, I think it might be easier for us all to deport our senators and our president and some well heeled industrialists that have sold our country down the pike, for their own benefits.
Then we can focus on relieving ourselves of the masses of Illgegals that infest more and more of out country everyday.
They are of course human beings but they don't know how to behave here and there is no one to teach them (assuming the would cooperate in learning proper behavior). That's what legal immigration is for and what it does. Legal Immigration YES!
Illegal Immigration, NO!

Make complaints to your apartment manager. If you get no results make complaints to the cops. A glass beer bottle crashing onto your porch is destruction of property not to mention a dangerous condition. Call the cops & file a report.

why do pro-illegals keep bashing the anti-illegals!? people like you are the ones who are getting hurt the most! doesn't life suck when it's full of illegal immigrants like the Mexicans who suck out everything that we love? I feel very sorry for you...how about having a strike? keep complaining to your manager. eventually, he will get ticked and will have no choice. every little bit you do helps. but seriously, reporting it to the authorities won't do much, because the American nightmare is coming true. I hope I'm dead by 2050.

She reported them to immigration and she said the day before immagration came they moved by the truck loads. Now its a nice complex. Maybe you should move if you can

Hey Adolf
People can talk what ever they want to talk, whether its chinese, spanish of pig latin. If they aint talking to you its none of your business what they are saying anyway. If it bothers you so much then why dont you get off your lazy buns and learn a foreign language? Or better yet get an education earn a better paying job and then move.
