Two words. Hell yes.

I am a soldier. I've spent my whole adult life in the service, and since I've been assigned to a field unit most of what I've done was to get me as prepared for Afghanistan, since it's the big one for Canada, as possible.

And the only thing that can help in keeping fear in check is all that training.

But before I get branded a coward for admitting to fear, here's a few little pearls of wisdom. Fear's the one thing that will always kick in when there's danger around you. Keeps you on your toes. Fear is the trigger that you need to switch all of your training on, and trust me I know about that one. And if you're not afraid when heading to war, well guess what, you would be either very foolish, or completely insane.

I'm in the military and am scared of war. War is a last ditch effort to accomplish a goal that diplomacy failed at. In many cases war could have been prevented if both sides of an issue were willing to sit down and truly negotiate. But one side or the other usually gets their collective butts in a twist and starts negotiations with bombs or bullets. No one wins in a war... and most loose something. To include the lives of its military personnel. Yes I'm afraid of war... BUT Its my job to do the best I can and I believe that anyone that isn't afraid of war is crazy, an idiot, or a glory hound and needs to be in a defensive position about 500 meters away from mine because he/she is going to get someone killed! (I prefer it only be him/herself)

Any sane human being should be scared of war. War is a horrific, terrifying situation, during which any person involved should be afraid. But sometimes being afraid is what keeps you going. Fear of war, fear of death, fear of injury, all work on your mind. Anyone who says that they are not afraid during war is either a liar or an idiot. Sometimes war is essential to help secure a lasting peace. Sometimes it is not.

Not personally scared of war. War seems to be really far away.

Any sane, thinking human being is afraid of war. Anyone who isn't is an idiot. However, sometimes there is no answer other than war. I also think that once we're "at war", then we should fight to win, not like we did in Viet Nam and Korea. My biggest worry is that Iraq will turn into another Viet Nam.

No, sometimes the only way to secure peace is through war. Sometimes you must fight to defend your freedom -- sometimes you must fight to pursue it.
