We have 2 and when I read that $300 each I was like WHOA! But then I got to thinking about all I've bought so far and that's probably about right. I don't buy all at once, so it doesn't seem like as much, but yep about $300 each. We
buy new backpacks, school supplies, cute pens and stuff, hair acc, 2 new pr shoes to start out , and of coarse jeans, shirts, socks and undies. WOW- those little boogers are expensive!!

We buy each child new socks, underwear, and shoes. Maybe a new outfit for the first day. I buy clothes as they are needed and as we find good sales. Buying clothes "just" because school is starting again seems silly to me. They didn't suddenly out grow their clothes the week before school starts up!
Now, if my kids have to wear uniforms, then we would make sure that they had fitting ones, but that is totally different.

I like for them to have a minimum of 10 outfits (10 shirts, 10 jeans) that can mix and match at the beginning of the year and then buy a new outfit every couple of weeks.
I shop Ebay and get some great deals on new name brand clothes, but I probably spend 150-200/kid, which is three this year.

In australia we have school uniforms so it isn't too much of an issue. 1 dress 2 shorts and 2 tshirts for girls( or 2 dress and 1 shorts/tshirt) boys 3 shirts and shorts. This is enough to get through the week.
You buy a backpack in prep which is the school one that will do till grade 6 and school supplies all the books. All they take is a art smock, box of tissues and library bag(which you can use year after year.

My parents give me about $700-800 for clothes and $100 for school supplies and $350 for shoes. I buy as many clothes I can buy for $600-800 because I hate going to school wereing the same thing every week! I start out with 2 pair of nice shoes $140 each and outside shoes for $70.
So to start out I get about $1250-1400 to start.

My son starts the 2nd grade next week. Since kindergarten, the only things I purchase for back-to-school are his supplies (of course), a new book bag, and maybe 2 pair of shoes. It is still summer when he goes back, and, since I buy him new clothes throughout the year, I see no need to splurge on them at the beginning of a new school year. Maybe things will change once his brothers start school and he gets a little older but for now, that is how I do it!!

To some degree, i spoil my kids with back to school clothes. i buy all brand new everything. Since i have 5 kids though i really try to find good sales. I manage to get my daughter a $60.00 pair of sketchers for $20.00. Once i even found those zip off pants boys like for not even seven dollars a pair. I can get great things for about $800.00 for all the kids.

I used to buy about 3 sets of clothes for my daughter when she was young. Now I don't spend anything on her for school except her basic supplies (pens, paper, etc). She gets enough clothes throughout the year.

It depends on the budget you have and how expensive your clothes are. My mom used to spend about $200 on each of us, and we were able to get a new pair of shoes, and a few new shirts and pants. And try to get things that can be mixed and matched together and with some of their old clothes.

I don't really take my kids 'back to school' shopping. I just buy them clothes as they need them throughout the year, to replace things as they wear out etc. The only thing I buy them right before school starts is new school supplies.
