ABSOLUTELY. Been in that situation. The first people I told were my friends. They were so supportive. Two of them stood there and held my hands when I called my parents to tell them. When I was in chemo, my friend stopped by every single day to find out if I needed anything. Company, something from the store, whatever. It was incredibly wonderful and so helpful. I kept a positive outlook all throughout my treatment and they were a big factor in keeping my moods raised.

That is a very private issue, too, her feelings, character, values all get tried in this situation! One answer to this question cannot fit everyone.
If she is dying, maybe she wants to do it silently, quietly, living out the rest of her life, with her friends as though it wasn't there.
No special anything, words, actions, misunderstandings, pity,
tears, false condolences.
Unless you have worn those shoes, you cannot possible comment on the right thing to do!

Yes, I would want to know. My friends would all tell me just as I would tell them if it were me. I would need their support and I would give mine to them.
