The Chinese proverb that inspires me the most would have to be

'Distant water won't help to put out a fire close at hand.'

'Have one's ears pierced only before the wedding ceremony starts. '

'Judge not the horse by his saddle.'

What about you?

Some that come to mind are:

When I feel I want MORE of whatever the world offers me...
I check it first with the Big Man upstairs...

"Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Jesus' Sermon on the Mount -- Matthew 6) and the proverb "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." (Proverbs)

When I feel stress - I appreciate these:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

Some others I love:
"Casting all your care upon him for He cares for you." I Peter

I am greatly helped by this verse-- say it heartily and mean it!

"Bless the Lord my soul and all that is within me bless your holy name. Bless the Lord my soul forget none of His benefits... who heals all your diseases, and forgives all your iniquities (Psalm 103)

Thanks for the good question.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Life is like loading twice your ship's cargo weight worth of seagulls, as long as you can keep half of them flying, you'll be just fine.
