I get about 4-6 hours of sleep a night, I am on a low calorie diet, and I workout 5 times a week, and I am at a stand still. Can not getting enough sleep be keeping me from getting over this plateau? I really do eat right, and I bust my butt working out. What could be the problem???

Yes it can...sleep deprivation causes your body, immune system, and metabolism to not function as well. And for most, it causes fatigue which can lead to overeating and laziness.

Also, make sure you are not on a too low calorie diet. I don't know your weight or height but for most folks, you shouldn't be eating less than 1200 cals a day. If you work out a lot than maybe even more.

Yes. It has been proved that sleep deprivation hinders weight loss. This may be due to a number of things, but I suspect that you simply feel lower energy from not getting enough sleep.

You need about 8 hrs to be fully psychologically and physically fit. Sleep more.

Yes lack of sleep can be the cause, when you don't get enough sleep your glucose levels rise, and that is a natural indicator to your body to store more fat. Also When your body is tired it Tries to find the quickest and easiest ways of creating energy, and that is by burning muscle.

Remember muscle weighs more than fat so you might not be static in your weight loss you just might be increasing your muscle mass at a relative rate to your fat loss.

Also try and remember that trying for a target weight is not as important as trying for a target body structure. Everyones body is different and one persons best weight is not the same as an other. My friend weighs about 20lbs heavier than me but our bodies are about the same size.

After trying for 10 years. I finally lost 150+ lbs (12 stone) and kept it off for over 4 years now. I've beaten 3 terminal diseases and I am now in amazing health, all around, not just thinner.

I did it without medicine, workouts, religion, going hungry or hating my food and without an operation or secret formula. I had tried counting: calories; carbs; fat; etc. I had tried jogging, swimming, weights, aerobics, crazy medicines and starving! But nothing ever worked well or lasted very long.

I also had Hypertension, High Blood Pressure, Chronic Asthma, vision and hearing loss. constant colds and ills, annual flu or pneumonia and more. I was approved for bypass surgery and taking usually between 16 and 20 pills a day.

Yes it does. Without adequate sleep, the body can't do normal bodily functions (such as burning calories) with the same efficiency it would if you were getting adequate rest.

Lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain. They had some study of it recently in the news. Gee whiz, I really need to follow it myself sometime!

I think it has a psychological impact. when I'm really tired, I'm lazier and end up eating more junk and larger quantities of food. also, you probably burn a more calories if you get enough sleeep.
