How can I better myself as a player? I'm a junior in highschool, I've got good tone, I can play to a high c normally, and above, I can go down to a low pedal tone D. I still don't feel like I'm ready for college band though. Any tips?

There is nothing better than taking a few private lessons. That way you get the experience of a professional. He/she can give you tips that relate to you specifically.

Find a teacher in your area and just sign up for a few lessons, maybe to help you get ready for solo and ensemble or some other competition or audition.

Good luck and happy playing!

I don't know a thing about technique, however, as a listener I can really hear inspiration through musicians instruments.

I suggest really listening to some of your favorites, and seeking out some new favorites to inspire you and let you know just how good a player can be.

For me, the trumpet solo of If I Should Lose You, performed by Booker Little, is beyond what I thought a trumpet solo could be.

Start taking private lesson from a college instructor whos instrument is trumpet/cornet. They'll improve your technique and start you on the next level of playing...
