He is over a year old and I was thinking about breeding him and taking pick of the litter but then I was wondering if I could pick a female and wait until her second heat and then breed those two. I've heard it can cause problems but I wasn't sure. I haven't even bred him yet so I have some time to think about it.

When my family breed german shepherds, we were told it was okay to breed father to daughter. And my aunt, who took one of the female pups did so when she was a year old without any problems.

If you do not already know the answer to this question, you have no business breeding dogs. I also don't know the answer to this question, therefore, I don't breed dogs.
One thing I do know is that the world does not need any more boxers. I really like boxers as a breed. I have known many. How? Because I volunteer at an animal shelter and there have been plenty of boxers through. Breeding your dog only contributes to dog overpopulation.
Every time you allow a litter to be born, you are ensuring that other dogs, other boxers, other puppies, must be euthanized in shelters. Go you. Congrats. Hope you can sleep at night.

Answer this - If you thought your father was a handsome man would you have sex with him to try and have a good-looking kid?
I THINK NOT!!!!!
Appart from the serious inbreeding problems with boxers now a days, you'd be asking for trouble not only with that generation of pups but of the generation after that as well! Besides, here's something to think about before you start breeding. Can you afford a couple of thousand dollars for a caesarian in the middle of the night if your female has problems? Because if you can't afford it and she needs one then you are hardly doing the right thing by her getting her pregnant in the first place, are you?

alot of people do it, my suggestion is NO. There are limited studies on how bad the genetic defects can be but any defect it bad right? My friend did this exact same thing with chihuahuas and has ended up with the following (since she got stuck with 3 of the pups)
one has a bulging eye
two have outward turned knees and lopping hips (they come out of place every step)
one has reverse sneezing disorder
one has an underbite so bad that it needs soft food or it cant chew
please dont do this to any animal!!

When you line breed and that is what that would be called line breeding or inbreeding you are running a much higher risk of having genetic defects. Those can run from mental problems with tempermant to gross deformity of your pups.
If you are going to breed breed from lines that are further apart than father daughter.

No. Its not. You'll notice some deformities. I raise AKC schnauzers. The first thing I look for is nipples on a girl. If its imbred there will sometimes be an odd number or irregularlly spaced. A male will have oddities on his lower organs too. Also when they get older their teeth might be screwed up. But then again you may get lucky. They are ALWAYS ill tempered.

If you have to ask this question here, it means that you don't know enough to be breeding in the first place, let alone inbreeding.
Please do the millions of animals already killed each year due to lack of homes a huge favor and neuter your dog.

Some people may say that it is okay, but you are opening the door to a lot of health complications, It is not good to breed any animal that closely. If you are not convinced speak to a vet or a breeder.

A lot of show breeders do this to keep a certain trait in the bloodline. But, they only do it when they know many of the generations behind the dogs. I am a breeder and I still don't think I would do it.

I am SO SICK of people who are so TOTALLY CLUELESS breeding!!!! Would you have babies with your DAD?????????
That is just NOT a GOOD IDEA!!!! He probably should not be bred anyway!! I am sure he is not a show quality dog or has all his health clearances!!!
Stop making more backyard bred pet quality puppies!!!! The world is riddled with them already!!!!
