I'm moving to a different state (from Florida to Hawaii) and I can't afford to take my dog with me (a little short on cash). My parents won't let me take him since they don't really have the money to. I am traveling on airplane. He is my first dog and means a lot to me. I would hate to put him to sleep or to leave him. I understand there is some organization to help raise money or to help people with these types of situations. Does anyone know any organizations or groups?

Try having him brought over by boat (black market)

Do not euthanize it! Or take it to a shelter. Ask afriend or family or try a dog RESCUE. make sure its a rescue not a shelter. Shelters will put him down a rescue will keep him as long as it takes. Most also make a person fill out an application and visit the home before giving away the dog. I hope this helps. I'm sorry.

Why should organizations have to foot the bill for people who get pets and then can't continue to take care of them. Place the dog with a friend or a shelter and take your chances. Unless you can gather up the money, those are your only options.

Hawaii has some pretty strict quatantine laws for pets comming into the state.
It is expensive to take a pet to there as you have to pay for the borading the entire time the pet is in quarantine. I think it is about 30 days.
You should try to find a shelter or rescue group to take your pet and find the dog a new home.

Find someone that would pet sit for a small fee and maybe you can afford to have him sent over in about 2 or 3 mos.

I'd say if you can't find the money to transport the dog with you then give it to a non-kill shelter, they'll find him a home.

i feel so bad for you!!! really. i had to get rid of my first dog. i was like 8, she was a dalmation! named lady. i gave her to a suposid non-kill shelter, and they fond her a home. but she ended up attacking another dog (she didin't do any major harm to them she just bit there foot and made them wimper) and so they had to put her down. it may not seem tragic to some of you but please remember i was only 8 years old!

P.S. good luck on finding a home for you dog..... i hope he makes some little kid just as happy as he made you!
