The close friends I have now are all people who are bookish and content with the friends they have now. They're great friends, but I'd like to have other types of people as friends, also. I get along easily with loners or outsiders. I'm trying to be more social and fit into new groups better and I think the best way is for me to meet and hang out with social people. But, social people don't respond well to me. There seems to be unspoken litmus test that I'm not passing. The types of people I want to hang out with aren't into me.

Could it be something as simple as me speaking up more whenever I'm hanging out?

you just have to be more out going and get out there and be heard!! if you want new friends you have to make a huge effort!! the payoff is nice though... so get out there and make some friends!! =)

yes.. sounds to me like u are kinda apprehensive of saying what u think or feel, esp in front of people who u WANT to hang out w/ (opposite of bookish, so probably more popular/talkative?) don't be afraid of what u think or say...just try ur hardest to work on urself and ur confidence; ur appearance, ur ability to understand current events, ur ability to learn about different subjects..that way, no matter what u talk about w/ these new or old people, u have something interesting to say, or have an opinion about it! there are no right or wrong answers, esp between friends; u should be able to talk in an intelligent or funny or any conversation w/ people who are comfortable. some people are just hard to break thru first impressions.... so try to be more confident in yourself and what u think/know, or ask questions that peak their interests, find out what's making them tick; that way, the more u can respond/interact with ANYONE, strangers or friends or family, the more comfortable u will be with urself as well as other people. it's ok to be shy, but if u want to try to be more outgoing, u are going in the right direction by trying to be around those kinds of people. don't be afraid of urself, and others won't be either.
