considering the fact that there are countless of Europeans(Eastern -former communist block- in particular) and Canadians in America, and yet, all the complaints about immigration go toward Mexicans, Caribeans, and Africans; I am wrong to think that there is an element of hypocrisy here and maybe who knows what else!!! ?

A lot of the complaints I read/hear center on the illegals, and also high on that list is the complaint about Spanish-speaking immigrants (notice I'm not saying illegals) not learning the language and acting as Americans. These complaints are nothing new, since they are basically the same issues that were raised with every immigration wave that has come into the country. People will vent their frustrations, and find a scapegoat, usually someone obviously different from them, and blame the state of the world, the country, the economy, etc, on these groups. If the focus is on Latinos, it is because of the numbers, mostly, and because you can't deny that illegal immigration is an overwhelmingly Latino issue.
As for Africans, there is no numbers-based explanation, and they are a non-issue for the most part.
As for complaining about language... well, every ethnic group that has immigrated to the US has kept their culture, traditions and language. It is usually the immigrant's children who learn the host country's language, and even then, many will continue speaking their parent's native tounge at home.

This country is the melting pot, without immigrants it would not exist. For Americans to regulate immigration they are being quite hypocritical to say the least. It is mainly the right wing Bushites who are doing the bitching about immigration from Mexico, and go and figure, they are also the leading employer of the immigrants thereof.

Personally, I think it all comes down to work ethic. You Mexicans are quite the workers, like us Yanks in many respects. The Southerners are complaining because you out work them. It comes down to laziness on thier part, they don't want to get off thier lazy *** and do anything. So the problem is labor related, screw the South, keep on coming into America, and do so bountifully.

America needs more hard workers like the Mexicans.

Yes, you are wrong. The debate is mostly from Latin America because of their overwhelming percentage of the illegals here, and even more eye-catchingly, their marches and 'reconquista' movements and demands based on 'entitlement'. Are you seeing that from any group not from Latin America? Because I am not. (Bunt, above, is an exception. However, if more European illegals were like her, you'd be hearing more complaints against them, as well. Otherwise, her logic is correct. She frankly is NOT the burden on the system that an uneducated, non-english speaking poor immigrant is.)

Call it what you like. Economics and strained services is the main problem, and entitlement claims from those stealing the services pisses people off. The last part is just added incentive to solve the first part, however.

No, you're not wrong. This hypocrisy is present all over the place. Mexicans hate Central Americans, North Africans hate sub-Saharan Africans, white skinned Argentinians hate dark haired Northern Argentinians and Bolivians, Western Europeans hate gypsies, Eastern Europeans hate every one that is not white USan, and white fundamentalist gringos hate any one with a foreing accent. At least there's a common bound: xenophobia.

Yes, I have yet to hear anyone complaining about us, Europeans being here on expired visas. That's because we came legally and pay our share of taxes as most Americans. We have no or very few kids, pay our medical bills and are no burden to US society. We are also very well educated-much better than most Americans, speak excellent English and easily blend in. In fact we are integrated into US before we even get here.
But I understand the Mexicans-they are not allowed to come legally, so they just cross the border, as did your ancestors. Oh, wait, there were no borders back then-all illegals who came got citizenship automatically and promptly.

I think that people notice the Latinos and others because they are not blue-eyed and faired-skinned like many Europeans. I don't mean to sound racist (I'm not); because of my job I know people of different backgrounds. When immigration raided the city some months ago, they were stopping the Indian-looking Latinos to check on their papers. The Europeans (there are about as many undocumented in this city) just blended in the crowd because of the way they look.

I still feel that ALL illegals (to include Mexican's) should be deported and for every one that gets deported, the next in line that actually took the time to apply for citizenship should be allowed in. Simple and keeps the status quo. You are right in that there are illegals from many countries in the US, it is just that you see so many Mexicans it is hard not to talk about them when speaking of illegals.

The biggest problem with your suppositions, those who come here from eastern Europe recognize that they are in another country, the first thing they do is learn to speak english, and act like americans. They do not cling to their native language and insist that all business be transacted in their native language.
