It seems to me that most of the support for Israels actions come from Christian conservatives. Why is this? From a religious standpoint. The Jews reject Christanity and were in part responsible for Jesus's death. I've heard the term zionism used?? What is this exactly?? I am an agnostic and have a hard time understanding this?

I believe that Israel has a right to defend itself. From my understanding Lebanon is about 40% Christian. I think Israel has gone to far with the killing of children and civilians.

Because of the false belief that Israel is God's chosen people, and those who align themselves with the Jews are favored by God. It all has to do with the Dispensationalist view of Bible study, which is so perverted it's funny.

Zionist is a term the Muslims use to talk about a so-called "plot" for Israel and their allies to take over the world. This is a made up excuse for why they hate Israel.

The Christian conservatives (which usually means Christian believers who actually live out their faith) support Israel because they are still God's chosen people. We know from the New Testament, that Israel is partially blinded (by God) until the fullness of the Gentiles have the opportunity to respond to the Gospel message. Then God is going to open their eyes and they will recognize that Jesus really is their Messiah.

Then we will be on the same team. In the mean time, we still believe the promises in the Old Testament, that the nations which bless (support) Israel will be rewarded by God. We are also commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Some of us also believe that Allah is the serpent spoken of in Revelations Chapter 12. The woman is Israel. Her child is Jesus. You should be able to understand the rest.

I hope this helps.

How many fallacies can you pack into one question?

"The Jews reject Christianity..."
By definition, a follower of ANY religion 'rejects' another, eg. a Buddhist rejects Islam

"The Jews were in part responsible for Jesus's (sic) death."
This point of view has been rejected by Vatican I and II.

The 'unwavering' support, as you put it, is simply their acknowledgement that the people of Israel get to defend their country, just as people in any other country would. It has nothing to do with religion. Why can't Muslims live and let live? The Christians ended the Crusades hundreds of years ago.

Zionism is the belief that the Jewish people deserve a homeland, called Israel, located where the Jewish states existed over 2000 years ago.

It is interesting to note that several (orthodox) Jewish sects, reject the current State of Israel, but remain Zionists. This is due to their belief that only the Messiah can lead the Jewish people back to Israel, that David Ben Gurion et al. were not the Messiah.

We support Israel because they are God's chosen people. Although modern Israel is pretty secular, they are still, by blood, God's chosen ones. We support Israel because the Jews, along with Christians, have been the most persecuted people in history. Look, there is nothing Israel would love more then to be left alone, allowed to live in relative peace and go on with there lives. The Islamic fascists will not allow it. They continue in their terrorist acts against Israel with the foolish notion that they can get rid of the Jews.

God said to Abraham in Gen.12:3, "I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse thee..." I believe a big part of why America has prospered and done well is our support and love for the Jewish nation.

The reason is because Hezbollah has an anti-American stance & Bush's conservative Christian backers are very vocal about this actin.

The Jews' rejection of Jesus as the Christ has nothing to do with Christian views of them as a people. Nothing has changed since 3500 yeras ago when Moses led them out of Egypt. The Jews are still God's chosen people & the source of the Messiah. The conservative Chrsitian standpoint is not only political but spiritual. We share the same God who we believe further revealed Himself as Christ. So despite our differences, we have a common ground.

I'm not a Christian, nor a conservative, and I'm not Jewish either. I'm a gay man. I support Israel 100%. I wish Israel would roll into Lebanon and occupy the entire country, and get rid of Hezbollah. Additionally, Israel should wipe Damascus and Tehran off the map. It's Iran and Syria who are causing this mess, in addition to Hezbollah.

Love, Jack

Conservative Christians have watched Israel stay under attack from Muslims for 58 years. We know that Israel has never, ever attacked anyone. They have only responded to their innocent citizens being killed day after day for nearly 60 years. You have a computer-look back at this history Israel has endured. What we do not understand is why has Israel not attacked Syria or Iran. They both are due.

the following is a outstanding concept... tell the Muslims there to resign attacking Israel and the Christians there received't have something to be stuck contained in the midsection about... Fancy that eh? you purely pronounced that 40% of Lebanons inhabitants is Christian, so who makes up the different 60? you're being dishonest the following my pal. Christians were leaving Lebanon in droves simply by conflict between Israel and the fanatical muslims who use Lebanon as their backyard to lob explosives at them...not all of us subscribes to the nonsense propaganda you attempt to hawk the following. EDIT: thanks JP.

Well I dont condone the attacks. Though I do support the Jews. The Bible tells us that the Jews are still the Chosen People but their hearts are hardened to the Gospel for the sake of the Gentiles (Romans 11) They are still God's children and we (Christians) are engrafted (adopted) into the family, thats why most Christians dont reject the Jews.

Forget the religions views - try this on.
Israel and Lebannon hate each other for fifty reasons - some are even valid. Lebannon looks the other way while some of its civilians (Hezbollah) attack and kill Israelis. Sometimes with missiles.

Now..... religion aside - what choice does Israel have?
This is not a religious issue. A colony of ants wouldnt have any other choice.

because they want to have armaggedon started so they can go home.

The jews are not responsible for jesus' death. what a stupid statement. The romans executed him. Some jews wanted him executed, some didn't. How on earth does that equal the jews killing him, especially given that he was a jew. sheesh.

zionism is not religious, except that its adherents pretend the bible gives them the authority to go back to the land. zionism is about the return of the scattered tribes of israel. to someone else's country.
