what are the chances of a domesticated declawed tabby cat returning home ? she's been missing now for 6 days..
Just to let you all know, it wasn't me who had her declawed, it was her previous owner. I've done all the right things as to put posters up, talked to neighbours, animal shelters, vets...called to her, and still nothing. She has a collar with her name and number on it...She's been seen in 2 completely different parts once in the woods, another time across the highway (if it was her)
I thought cats stayed close to home? She is a beautiful girl and loved her family , but might be scared of strangers and will run from them, but does anyone think she may return home??

My cat got lost in my rural town complete with possums, racoons, and hundreds of feral cats and he was declawed (MY CHOICE AND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!) and he was gone for 3 days. He came home when it rained. He'd had quite enough fun. When we left to walk the dogs that morning he was crying for us underneath the porch chair. The only problem he had was fleas, which we promptly took care of. The bonus is, he never tried to get out again. I'm sure your kitty will come home safe. Cats are quite resilient creatures and they can find their way home.

Oh I am so sorry! I have worked at an animal shelter, and people found their cat 3 months + later. Sometimes they were found and kept by someone else for a period of time...I would put up posters and fliers with a picture - offer a reward (don't have to say how much, but people are more likely to come forward). It's great that you have a lost report in at the vet clinics and shelters...make sure there are fliers there with a current picture. Keep in mind, her collar may have come off if it was snagged on something - especially if it is a break-away.

I would also try going out at dusk around you home and calling for her/shaking food. Sometimes they are very near to your home, but just too afraid to come out. You could also try live-trapping around your home - though you might catch some other animals/cats that you were not expecting.

I hope you get her back - keep trying...don't give up too soon - I have seen it many times where they eventually turn up - hope she does!

I"m sorry to hear that! I'm not sure about cats staying in one place... i've seen them roam but also stay in the same area. If you get her back i would suggest taking her on a leash outside keeping within certain boundaries then next time she gets out she might not go very far. I do that with my cat and she has gotten out twice and was found in the yard both times. I don't think it was so much that she wanted to run away but she just wants to be outside cause she answers when i call her and doesn't run away like i've seen most cats do. I hope you find her whole and healthy and i hope she is spayed:) or she could come home with a litter in her belly! Also check your local humane society or other places where found pets are taken. Oh you did already...Get her microchipped if you find her that way if she is taken to a humane society they will scan her and contact you. Good luck!!

ok this is what I did...I put pictures of here just about everywhere. I searched the places during nighttime (when they are not scared of going out), used her food inside the food carton as noise but she didnt show up. probably beacause she was terrified. I got a call from someone who said they are looking at her right now after 4 weeks...yes 4 weeks!! when I had losed every bit of hope. she was very thin and her fur had become ugly. since my cat is not the one who would start a fight i think she just kept her to herself hidden somewhere. the interesting part is that she was found very close to our house so there is hope and let me remember you that cats are very good "smellers".oh and another thing that I remember now was that i put out some used socks together with some food every night close to somewhere where i could see if she was getting near from the window. she can feel the smell of your feet from a couple of yards...
anyway best wishes and keep up the hope-remember 4 weeks1

I had a fixed male cat that ran away in September 2004 and came home after Hurricane Katrina hit my area in August 2005. He went through the storm outside and was glad to be back home. SO there is always hope.
