The same reason with Canada and australia, the population live on the outside of the country because inside its mostly mountains, deserts and forests.Anyway the population of Russia is over 200 million not 20 million.

Russia is big and cold. Like Canada, most of the northern regions of the country are barely populated, or not populated at all.
On top of this, they have severe winters and a poor economy. It's not exactly the world's biggest hot spot for immigration.
Russia is a beautiful country with a rich culture and diverse people. But it is also very uninviting in the eyes of most of the world, so its population does not skyrocket just because it is large.

Not only is the cold a major factor, but getting around the place is a NIGHTMARE. Driving from St. Petersberg to a town in Siberia can take a week or more, considering both the great distance and Russia's constant storms. Whether they're snow or even rain they're still strong storms with lots of wind and the temperature is very cold. Not to mention there's a lot of precipitation too even though most of it freezes up in the winter.

The same reason Canada is second in size but only has 30 million people in it. A lot of the land is in a climate that is too cold to live.

Russia is mostly inhabitable where most people live on the borders to the east, west, and south. also Russia used to have a huge population until it became Russia after the USSR broke up.

As said above its the climate. And the sex ratio is 3:1 for women to men. So very man gets 3 women as a ratio which he cant manage to satisfy. just kiddin.
Well it is said to hav poor economy. but i wont accept it as it is 1 of the most costliest destination for eg Moscow is worlds costliest city now. So if u r born in Moscow how wil u survive without money? dat is a mystery if u r sayin there is no good income.
I don't mind migrating to Russia if given a chance. At the same time the problemo there is like other European countries ppl don't speak English like even for eg Ukraine they just don't no English.
& outside ppl dont no russian lang dats a big draw back. like chineses dont no english but r tryin hard to learn it now a days

Because the population isn't centralized- as in urban areas don't take up the majority of the population, and much of the land is rather inhospitable.
Oh- and your numbers are waaay off.

Much of it is uninhabitable. It contains a large share of the world's Arctic and sub-Arctic areas where life is either impossible except when employing extreme measures of highly undesirable due to the terrain and climate.
