A sty (hordeolum) is a red, painful lump on the edge or inside of your eyelid that may look like a boil or a pimple. Usually a sty is filled with pus. As it swells in size, the sty may make it difficult for you to see clearly because you can't fully open your eye.
The cause of a sty is a bacterial infection, usually staphylococcus. Usually the bacterial infection develops near the root (follicle) of an eyelash. You may have more than one sty at a time or several in succession.
To prevent stys i believe carefully washing your eyes with an antibacterial soap would help to assure one will not occur.

A sty is a bacterial virus in the eye lid. It's kinda like a pimple you can't treat with topical medication. They usually go away on their own, but if you still have it for over a week and it isn't getting smaller or draining on it's own then you should see your doctor. I recently got a bad one myself. I work with photo equipment and chemicals and suspect something blocked a pore in my eyelid and caused it. My doctor gave me an antibiotic for 10 days and now it is gone. Also, if it is itching or burning, you should use a very warm tea bag and just rest if on your eye for 10 minutes at a time when it hurts. This reduces swelling and is very comforting to the affected eye.

A sty is like a little blister on the inside of your eye lid. to get rid of it apply a warm pack to the area for 20 minutes three times a day. I don't know how to prevent them though. in my experience they just pop up once and a while.

Its an infection in your tear duct. usually a ppiece of dirt or dust get stuck. they take about a week- 2 weeks to go away. there is not really an medication u can take. A hot compress can help bring the sty to a head, but because its internal any topical medication will not work

A stye that is located by your eye is caused by a normal bacteria that almost everyone has. The bacteria becomes irriated and causes a blockage of the pore resulting in a stye. It is also possible to get them from not washing hands. If a person is a poor eater, malnourished in any way, it can cause styes to occur more commonly. I know. I have a son who is a picky eater and autistic. Personal hygeine is a daily struggle. He gets them all the time. Use a specialized eye wash to cleanse the eye to help get rid of them. But time is best healer.

I think it's when a pore on your eyelid get's blocked by impurities... like if you rub your eyes too much like I do. :) I get them a lot, it's a tiny bump that grows right under the top eyelashes, often scratching and annoying the eye. It will usually go away after a few days.
If you get thema lot, I would recommend keeping your hands away from your eyes!
:)
I don't know if there's medication for it, but I nenver use any...

I used to work for an eye doctor and dealt with this problem.
A sty is an infection. It is only treatable by seeing an eye doctor. If you try to pop it it will spread infection into your eye as well and you will develop an eye infection.
The eye doctor can lance it if it needs it and he will put you on an antibiotic for your eye and for the site.
