ok i colored my hair this awful red color, which left my freah roots tooo red. so i then colored my hair a dark brown. it looks so good since there was red in it before. i just want to know how long with dark will last, will it last long enough for the red to wash out, or will all the dark wash out and it will be all purple or something, i relaly have no clue what will happen. but the resuls right now are so great! i want to keep it the way it is, or at least have it only fade like normal.

It depends, some hair brands take a longer time to fad and wash away. Do you know what brand your using? cheaper brands cause dry hair and they stay on longer.

I've done this before. Except I used Dark Blue. So anyhow, the red, really depends on which type of dye you used. Sometime it says it will last for 6 weeks, but the ones that cost more tend to actually last shorter and fade. The first colour that will wash out will be the brown, because you've dyed on top of another chemical. The red will show in probably 3 months if you wash your hair everyday.

I assume that you didn't use permanent dye because you are expecting it to wash out. The red dye should have been simply colored over, and no longer "exists" under the brown dye. Dark wash out dyes usually don't ever wash out completely, but when it mostly washes out you should have the original color.

It all depends on what type of color you used (demi-permanent, sem-permanent or permanent). If it's permanent it will last until it grows out (you'll have roots). If it's semi or demi, it'll slowly fade out to your natural color. My advice - keep the part from the box that has the color numbers and put them by your hair products. When it comes time to color your hair again you'll know which colors to buy.

You should just wash it all out.
