Christianity has a history of being threatened by anything that is female oriented. Hello, Da Vinci Code! Eve, and Witches, too. Femininity is associated with evil. That's why I'm not a Christian.

I don't take feminism as a real "threat". Most woman I know think feminism isn't for them. They love for me to open doors for them and treat them like ladies.

The idea that all feminists are flannel wearing feminazis who are raging bull dyke lesbians who hate hate hate men is more TV/news "hype". Don't believe everything you read in newspapers or hear on TV.

I think there are many issues of equity and justice where the feminist movement has often had the higher ground
Interestingly, one of the first places to enact laws against domestic violence against a wife was Geneva under Calivin dirign the reformation.

on the other hand... if a women things she has to be more like a man and less like a woman to be a real feminist... that is self defeating and devalues women and does not elevate women

part of the probblem is you take a perfectly good word, add ism and you get womthing that might not even be the original.. In many cases Im not sure feminists act in the best interest of women. I think the weight of the evidence is abortion is harmful to women medically and there is such an emotional attatchment to abortion right that I think its hard to be abjective, and the high incident of abortion probably is related to the high incident of breat cancer

similatly it is almost remarkable the slowness the feminist movement has taken to recognize the danger of HPV to women in terms of cervical cancer.. or at least the relative quietness... so I think in some cases the feminist movement is not necessarily in the best interest of women

and lastly, not sure the left leaning liberal leadership of the feminist movement reflects most women's values

I don't know any Christian men who think like that unless they are big Rush Limbaugh fans or something like that.

The problem that I have with modern feminism is that it robs women of their dignity and their special place in our society. It tells them that to be "equal" with men they have to be virtually the same as men.

The Bible says that men are to respect their wives as the "weaker vessel". That doesn't make women inferior, it only refers to the fact that as a whole women are not as physically strong as men. So when a man offers to help a woman carry something or holds the door open for her out of courteous respect, some of the people who actually do fit the description you gave get offended as if these actions are demeaning to them.

Another problem I have is that "women's liberation" destroyed centuries of work by women who were much wiser and far sighted than the founders of the modern movement who said that for a woman to be "liberated" they shouldn't have to get married in order to enjoy sex.

That was just what all of the carnal men in this world were looking for. An excuse to have promiscuous sex with no strings attached and to even have women left to work and take care of the children these casual encounters produced all on their own.

Feminism is not the same as women's rights. Feminism does espouse the beliefs that men are the root of all women's problems. Look at the TV shows these days, the commercials, and all the women's jokes that pertain to men. Always, men are portrayed as lazy, stupid, beer-drinking goofs whereas the women are shown as the smart, sophisticated ones. Men have had to appologize for being men for quite some time now and Christian men have, frankly, had enough of it. Men and women are different. Both have wonderful qualities and are designed to complete one another when joined in marriage. Femminists want us to believe that men are unnecessary as anything other than sperm donors. When you are under attack, it is natural to want to become defensive and lash back at the attacking party.

woah! I'm not a christian Man...but I figured this would be one of those generalization questions. That is so incredibly dumb it's barely worth while to answer. But, as I am semi-bored: Feminists are only a threat to themselves. They hate. Feminism ideas are not bad, but the extreme versions of them are.

Feminism is only a threat when it's extreem enough for them to lose thier common scense. For the record: I try not to make generalizations like that.

Because the majority of self-described feminists that I have met have been that way. I haven't met any self-proclaimed feminists who actually liked men.

"All men are rapists and that's all they are. They rape us with their eyes, their laws, and their codes." ~Marilyn French

"A woman's asking for equality in the church would be comparable to a black person's demanding equality in the Ku Klux Klan." ~Mary Daily

"Most women are one man away from welfare." ~Gloria Steinem

"The atmosphere of intense dislike for men and anything male lay like a miasma in so many English middle class houses. Overnight in the late sixties in England, confusion reigned. If feminists hated men so much why were so many of them sleeping with the enemy? I am the daughter of a diplomat born in China and it was my Amah who was the one to insist that my twin sister and I be put out on the hill side. Failing to achieve that she wanted our feet bound. It was women in Africa who practised ritual circumcisions on their daughters. I knew that because I worked with missionaries in Africa. I was fighting a lost cause and what bothered me then and bothered me now, is that men made no attempt to defend themselves.

By now the 'new man' was beginning to emerge and he was not a pretty sight. Parroting everything in the woman in his life was teaching, he could usually be found in woman's conferences running the crèches and trying to looking 'caring.' Mostly he was stoned, confused and angry. Maybe because as far as I could see, the new feminists made no effort to share an equal relationship with their male partners. They saw themselves as 'superior beings.' The new men were expected to take their places a few steps behind their women and to do as they were told. Mostly, they had to accept the dictates of the dictators and quietly get on with the household chores and take care of the children. But what ever a new man did, he could never atone for the sins of other men. Any man who disobeyed his partner, was subjected to expulsion from the matrimonial home and in many cases, from a relationship with his children. Now, there were a legion of feminist lawyers and therapists to make their 'sisters' were fully supported in the battle to destroy men."
~Erin Pizzey, founder of the modern women's shelter movement
