Assimilated yet? Hmmm, well I'm not sure of the question but I think we've assimilated their culture as far as restaurants go, just like we did with Italian, French, German - does that me we've been assimilated because we ate at the Olive Garden? Wow, standards for assimilation have really come down in recent decades, I guess now all it takes is a restaurant or two. Watch out!!!! There's an Armenian restaurant down the street!!! They're the next to assimilate us, oh whoas me!!!!

My three oldest children are naturalized American citizens born in Mexico as was my wife. We moved here almost half a century ago. My three youngest children were born Americans even though the oldest of the three was born in France. We speak both English and Spanish at home. We eat in Mexican, Thai, Chinese, Korean, German, Greek and what might be called American restaurants. One of my sons is a millionaire and another will be by the end of the year. One is a high school teacher. My youngest daughter is the only one that doesn't own her home but she is putting her daughter through college to become an environmental engineer. My oldest grandson is studying to be an aero-space engineer. We have assimilated but we love Mexico and our Mexican family there. Some of them may well be in the demonstrations at the Zocalo now.
The tone of your question was "stick it in your eye." Pues, the above is what I spy with my little eye.

Since you are not talking about illegal immigrants, why can't Mexican Americans go to Mexican restaurants they are also part of our culture, just like Italian, Chinese, BBQ, and American fair restaurants, their are also German, Swedish, Greek, and Pakistani restaurants. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill, and totally missing the point. And by the way I love Mexican restaurants.

You are mistaken my friend. Watch American Eats from the History channel. Part of Mexican food is American, for example Nachos, chimichanga, i can't remember others off the top of my head. Also most immigrants probably even your heritage didn't assimulate into the culture right away either.

I am a white American. My grandparents were refugees, from Germany during WWII. My grandfather worked for the US military to earn citizenship. They had to learn English, and put my father into school.
I eat at Mexicans all the time, speak a little Spanish, and hang with Mexicans. Am I assimilated?

American culture is a melting pot that is comprised of a blending of multiple cultures. BTW, most Mexican restaurants bear little if any resemblance to traditional Mexican cuisine, but are actually "Tex-Mex", a harmony of cultures at it's finest.

I think you kind of lost your point there. Is your first paragraph supposed to be sarcastic? Or are you serious? I don't recall seeing anywhere else that people were being asked to give up their culture just because they live in/moved to America. Your post doesn't anger me, it just confuses me. Although it did give some of the attention you're obviously trying to generate.

it will be offensive to eat pizza (pizza comes from Italy) or eat Chinese or sushi. Even hamburgers comes from Hamburg, Deutsch.
What kind of food could I eat in order be assimilated ?
