As a white kid growing up in southern Mississippi, I saw a LOT of racism. Racist jokes were not only acceptable in social situations, they were encouraged. Blacks were often regarded as inferior to whites. Attitudes like that have gradually died off with the older generations, but will probably never be completely gone.
Unfortunately, it's human nature to find a person or group of people to blame for your problems. I can almost still hear the elder people in my family talking about it. In the south of the early 1980's (when I lived there), all of the economic problems of the area were blamed on the high percentage of black people living in the state. (This was coming from an old step-uncle who usually had a beer in his hand by 10am every day, but wondered why he couldn't keep a job!)
The good news is that, even in the south, racism is now socially UNacceptable. The bad news is that racism is will always be around on an individual level as long as there's a loser looking to cast blame on anybody but himself.

People make stereotypes, and many are either
1) too lazy to try and know the person for real
2) too emotionally scarred to try to know the real person
3) to dumb to try to know the real person
4) or indoctrinated by others to not try to know the real person
In the US, I think we have a lot of 1 & 3, but I know that 2 & 4 play major roles in the middle east conflict on all sides. In addition, some people in te US may suffer from #2 after 9/11, especially if they lost a loved one in the attacks. Luckily, #3 is less common, though some of the remaining Klan members are undoubtedly like this, having learned their hatred from their parents.
Hope that helped.

Well old habits die hard...as they say...also people after all are lesser mortals..so they carry their prejudices and pre-conceived notions in their minds and judge others (esp. those that are different from them or do not confirm to the regular ones they see around them or encounter) according to that mindset...this is true esp. of those people who have never been out of the place they live or they have lived since they were born...the more you interact with others...esp. those who are different from you, culturally, or otherwise, IMO, you can always learn something or the other...and also teach the other person something in return...
it all depends on whether you go with an open mindset or a closed one...
Moreover, this is the only way in today's rapidly-changing world...to try to carry everybody along with you and to be tolerant of others beliefs and cultures (even if it might run contrary to what you have been brought up with).
Hope this helps & good luck!

most discriminations happens for what a person color is? then comes how they dress?
unforntunely we are not born this way, but the way we are brought up by our parents and peers that makes us this way.

just ingnore it. its never going to change people are just stupid and can't get over themselve. it really is petty but there isn't much you can do to change a persons views since that how they grew up its all they know. i just ingore it because the less attention they get from it maybe the less they will do it.
