My husband and I are thinking of buying a SUV within the next 6 months. We are looking at both the Pathfinder and the 4Runner. Any thoughts on these two? I'd love a comparison.

it really comes down to what you like.

when i came back from overseas, my team leader bought a 05 pathfinder, and looked at the 05 4runner. (and trailblazer, explorer, grand cherokee)

you get alot (alot!) more for your money with a pathfinder....more than the depreciation difference between the two is worth. (i think it's only like 1% difference now)

the pathfinder engine is better, but the 4runner is nicer inside.

i liked the rear seats on the pathy better. but...more plasticky inside.

the seating position on a 4runner is very....'car like'. hard to describe, but you stick your legs waaay forward, rather than the upright seating position alot of people like in SUVs. the roof on the 4runner is alot lower also.

i forget if the 4runner has a 3rd row....but the one on the pathfinder isn't a really good one. it's more for little kids, or for short trips with adults.

bottom line, test drive, and find what you like.

plus...the pathfinder looks cooler. the 4runner is boring(like almost all toyotas!)

4Runner: The 2006 4Runner opens up those forbidding places you wouldn’t venture to before. With an available 260-hp VVT-i V8, it’s a high-tech machine that can roll over inhospitable territory, no sweat. And with its automatic limited-slip differential (2WD models only), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) [2, 3] and available voice-activated DVD navigation system [4] with Bluetooth® [5] wireless technology, a bit of unfamiliar territory shouldn’t be a problem at all. In fact, that’s where things get interesting
Prices:

4Runner SR5
$27,635 MSRP [1]

4Runner Sport Edition
$29,975 MSRP [1]

4Runner Limited
$34,350 MSRP [1]
[My aunt has a 4Runner and it rans great! It has many great features and it looks great from the outside and inside]

Pathfinder:
Pathfinder—authentic power and utility for authentic family adventures. A 270-hp 4.0-L V6 means real power on the road; Nissan engineering means real capability off-road. Up to 6,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity and a fold-flat cargo area mean you can bring the equipment you want. Standard three row seating for seven. Discover Pathfinder—tell better stories.

We have a Nissan Pathdinder 2006 and its wonderful! It has space for everything and for everyone. It also can transform to a camping tent, when you buy this suv, they give you a camping tent made just for this suv. Prices between a 4Runner and a Pathfinder are almost the same, so everything depens on you now

I rented a Pathfinder about a month or so ago. I was amazed - really. It was so comfortable and drove SO well. So UNLIKE a Jeep liberty for example. And it got really good gas mileage unlike so many SUV's. I don't know about the Toyota. This is also the only Nissan that has really impressed me and it did a thourough job. Maybee you could go to Enterprise and rent one for the weekend?

I'm sorry I may be biased because I am a Nissan Technician. The new 4.0L engine makes 265 horsepower. Need I say more? And the new Pathfinder is better inside and out. Don't scrimp option it up you will really like it.

I would go with the 4Runner. The nissan pathfinder has really small seasts in the second row with non-existent legroom.

Toyota 4runner. Nissan are great but Toyota have better trucks I think.

both good...it really comes down to personal preference. If you would like a comparison of specs, go to edmunds.com BTW, Toyotas tend to hold their value better than Nissan.
