how long after having appendix removed can one fly on a commercial jet? I am getting conflicting info!

my boyfriend was out of town when this happened. he needs to get back home! not really a "pleasure" trip....

It depends on your healing time which includes your age (young heals better than old), your current health status (if you have diabetes, healing time is longer), no complications from surgery (like the doc still has to drain the pus out). So in general, if healing is toatal and no pain on feeling area of scar you can fly on a plane (need not to bring your Superman outfit). Most common cause of appendicitis is eating SEEDS (seeds are for birds!!).

I would give it two weeks at least. I was only -just- starting to get to the point that it didn't hurt EVERY TIME I MOVED at that point. It was horrible. Judge for yourself: If I got on a plane and the G-force hit my intestines, would I scream?

I was up and back to work in 2 weeks. A lot depends on the person and how quick they recover.

Why can't you do it as soon as you get out of the hospital? Ask your doctor, he should know.
