Airborne_Lt. - you are right, Bush is the one who used the flag draped coffin to win re-election. The Democrats were planning to but pulled thier ad for descency reasons (they say) so go figure. Commander in Chief? or Yale frat boy gone on vacation?

Kitty - you are 100% right. It must be shown because that is reality and if people are going to vote and ratify thie action, then we deserve to know what we are signing up for, not some fairy tale about War.

What is the obsession with seeing flag draped coffins? If you have a set and enlist you'll understand. If you choose to live under the freedom those brave enough to serve has provided for you, respect their wishes for privacy.

Showing a picture of a flag draped coffin for the mere purpose of inciting hatred for political gain is wrong. There are several politicians who were doing this simply to get votes from those who oppose the current conflict in Iraq and persuade those who are "middle-of-the-road" in their feelings towards the conflict to join them in their stance.
I consider this appalling. If you are against the current conflict in Iraq simply state your reasons for being so, do not show the coffins of fallen soldiers in an effort to further the emotional impact of your propaganda.

Because the person inside the flag draped coffin chose to defend to the end. Showing the flag draped coffin is considered disrespectful.

When my husband was in Iraq, The Times printed a series of pictures in it's magazine of a young American widow keeping watch over her husband's flag draped coffin. He had been killed in Iraq.I wept copiously for her and for myself. I subsequently went to the funeral of a young British Officer who had also been killed there. The burial ceremony was filmed (with his family's full consent), and televised. These images MUST be shown, or how can we possibly expect people to understand the human cost of war? Amidst all the flag waving and jingoism, the reality is that these beautiful young people are dead. The actuality and finality of that makes one ask 'what for?'

A flag-draped coffin can't be filled. The flag isn't draped on the coffin until there is a body in it.

The rule is to prevent the exploitation of our war dead.
Those people did not die so some reporter can gut a Pulitzer.
They did not die so the 'anti-war' crowd can have a graphic for their poster.
The simple fact of the matter is that if people like yourself had respect - this rule would not be necessary.

I love this question, you worded it great. I get it, they will show us a ' mission accomplished banner ' but not the coffins of the brave men and women who died for it. And yes we will continue to fill those coffins......out of the cameras view. Go 1st amendment!!! Yeah USA USA USA

whilst one possesses information, its common to confirm. Daniel 12:4--particular truths have been hidden until those final days and then became considerable. meaning each faith claiming to be Christian had errors teachings in place for hundreds of years. The honest slave might provide nutrients( religious) on the right time( whilst God willed a fact to be ordinary) -- so until God willed a fact to be ordinary no longer even the honest slave could be responsive to that fact, hence errors teachings until the right time. so right this is base line actuality----- those making the corrections to errors teachings in front of the hearts of the ridiculers, will tutor to be top interior the tip.

I've never heard of not being able to show a picture of a flag drapped coffin.I personally believe it's disrespectful, no soldier wants to be rembered that way.No person wants to die for their country,They would rather make someone else die for theirs.

Wow, never heard of that one. It was probably a media issue on not showing the picture. Not everyone wants to see America's sons & daughters brought home in a box. Please enlighten me if you find the root to this one, it's very interesting.
