I had a baby 10 months ago and gained 60 pounds with the pregnancy even though I honestly was not pigging out. Since his birth I have lost about 40 pounds but am unable to lose the rest despite cutting fat and calories and exercising. I am thinking of doing Atkins. Does anyone know anything about low carb diets.

Absolutely......IF you are prepared to make it a lifestyle and not a diet. There is NO "diet" where you will not regain weight when you stop and go back to your old ways.

In my opinion it is the healthiest way to eat. Never mind the ignorant people who think that all you eat is buttered steak with bacon, or those who still believe that grains are better for you than veggies, or those who think that Atkins died of his own diet (he died of complications from slipping on ice and hitting his head on a sidewalk). They are believing the propaganda and have no idea what Atkins or low-carbing is about.

Read the book, decide if it makes sense for you and if you could live like that. Do some research on why a low-carb diet is healthier than the SAD (Standard American Diet) or the commercially influenced Food Pyriamid.

The low-carb forum I'm on has a section specifically for pregnant and nursing moms.

Good luck and enjoy!

I agree with the person who said not to do Atkins if you are breast feeding. No good for the baby. Just eat a healthy diet and give it time.

Now if you aren't breastfeeding......I hated Atkins. I had headaches, constipation and since have not been able to eat high fat foods (which they say is alright on Atkins...how can THAT be good for you???) because they make me ill. I did lose weight and kept all but 5 pounds off for over a year but I don't recommend it. I just eat healthy and burn more calories than I take in.

Good luck!

South Beach is WAY better for you !!! My brother is a doctor and he said it's the best diet he's ever seen. First two weeks, cut out all whites (bread, potatoes, pasta, etc.), don't eat any fruit (too much sugar), drink LOTS of water (no alcohol for the 1st phase). The main thing is to eat something at least six times a day. This gets your metabolism moving and keeps it moving. Go for a walk everyday for at least 20-30 minutes. I know it's hard with a "new" baby to find the time to eat as often, but they don't have to be major meals and if you take your walk in the morning the energy you feel will keep you going all day. For example, breakfast could be a boiled egg (one or two), and a 6-8oz. glass of veggie juice. Your "snack" a few hours later could be celery sticks (as many as you want) and a piece of low-fat cheese (mozzarella cheese stick is fine). And so on..... you can find more information online about the diet. My husband and I did it and we have 3 children (ages 3, 9 and 17). I homeschool and work 30 hours a week as a bartender.... talk about tired !!! You can do it too !!

They certainly work, but it can get very tedious very quickly. At first, a diet where you can eat unlimited amounts of steak and cheese and eggs sounds pretty good, but it gets old before you know it and you would sell your soul for a piece of bread. A better way, from my personal experience and from people I know, is The Movie Star Diet. It's not as popular or well known as Atkins, but it worked a LOT quicker and you don't have that thing where you're missing a food that you can pretty much never have again, if you want to stay strict to the Atkins plan.

If you can stick to it-it does woek. The first 2 weeks are the hardest and then you get bored. If there is a store near you that sell Atkins products-get some bread and pancake mix. The brownie mix is good too. Jello has almost no carbs. You will start to notice that your urine, breath and toots will be really horrible. That is how you know you are burning carbs and not fat.

My sister and her husband use the Atkins diet all the time. They go on the diet and lose weight. They go off the diet and gain the weight back. If you are willing to eat like that forever it might work. I recommend just healthy eating and exercise.

Just know that if you do, all the wight you lose will return once your off the diet. I have had tremendous success with NutriSystem. Of all the diets (and there have been many) that I have tried, this is the only one that I can see working long term.
If you'd be interested in more information, I can direct you to a web site that is independent of NutriSystem. And you do NOT have to register. It is loaded with information, recipes, ideas, support, and lots and lots of friendly people. It was started by a gentleman who follows the program. You can easily follow the program without investing in the NutriSystem foods. Here is the link http://s2.forumforfree.com/index.php?mfo...

Good luck.

Don't do it!

Yes, people on this diet loose weight fast, but it's very unhealthy (Mr. Atkins himself died of some seriously clogged arteries). Your body actually needs a chemical in complex carbohydrates to be able to process and burn fat.

I know loosing weight can be slow the old fashioned way, but it really is the only way to keep weight off, and take care of the rest of your vital body functions.

Best wishes

I've never been a fan of the Atkins Diet. Are you still breast feeding? If so, please don't cut back too much if you are truly eating well. It takes a while after a baby. Hang in there.

ok i've got completed the two so ... firstly in case you have in basic terms lost 5 lbs in one month on a vegetarian nutrition plan you likely have not been work out and/or you have taken in too many energy. in simple terms as a results of fact this is non carnivorous does not propose its low calorie. Now as for ATKINS run....do no longer do it. i presumed i became into so clever and so did all of the persons I confident to circulate on Atkins reason I lost 29 lbs in a month, yet... no longer in basic terms did the burden come nicely suited decrease back the minute I have been given decrease back to the actual international and ate some carbs. yet I won decrease back extra, plus I grew to grow to be a B*tch on a similar time as in this nutrition plan. CRANKY!!! and it became into sooooo no longer situation-free to pay interest as your ideas has no potential as a results of lack of carbs. it is so bodily undesirable too. It became into exciting for the 1st couple of days, Sir Francis Bacon, cheese, steaks, salmon, nuts... AKA fat fat fat fat fat fat...then you certainly start to experience like a pan of oil. Makes me unwell recalling this nutrition plan. How approximately including somewhat lean protein to the veggie nutrition plan and workout the burden off, then you certainly will need an business enterprise toned physique.
