Yes and no. Some one else mentioned the Google Pack and he/ she is correct. The Google Pack is a bundle of several software programs, mostly freeware with some trial versions. One of the items is Norton Antivirus program. It is a special edition which works just like the full commercial versions. However, this edition only provides new virus signature updates for 6 months. After 6 months, you have to buy a new license if you want to continue to receive virus signature updates. Download from: http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?hl=en&gl=us
There is no shortage of good free antivirus software programs, such as: Antivir, AVG and Avast. These three freewares are the best of the free bunch. Download from: http://www.filehippo.com/software/antivirus/
I recommend you do not try to download Norton Antivirus software from P2P file sharing networks. Invariably, the software you think you are downloading is actually spyware, Trojan or other types of malware. Think about it. If someone managed to hack a security software so anyone and everyone could use it for free then it is not a very good security software program.

You can get the Trialware version that will last you 15 days from www.symantec.com. Some computers and some software packages are bundled with a trial version that will last you up to 6 months to a year for free.
Some employers will license anti-virus software for employees use on their home computers. If you work for the DOD, for example, you can get it free. Ask your computer technician/administrator at work if your organization can do this for you.
This seems to be the limit to getting Norton AV for free.
My solution is Alwil's Avast. The Home Edition is free for personal use (non business use). Don't let "free" fool you it's a full featured Anti-virus suite with daily updates to counter even the most recent threats.
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
Note: You will have to register it with a valid e-mail address to get an activation key. If you don't you get a 60 day trial period to use it.
