Also, do you like the subject of history? Why or why not?

That is a very true statement. And yes, i do like history, i like knowing about what went before......bearing in mind of course that George Santayana spent most of his adult life high on the equivalent of methamphetamine or so rumour has it.....maybe his moments of lucidity weren't meant to be considered. however those who ignore histroy are doomed to repeat it, but from history we should be able to recognise and reconcile situations before they occur again. but then, how many of us actually listen to history.........ergo the quote!

I agree with a friend of mine, who adds to the quote "as are those who do." (I don't know the source of this, unfortunately.)

Knowing history doesn't prevent people from doing the same d*mn, dumb thing over and over.

This is not to say that history is not a valuable subject. Knowing how we got where we are helps us know where we are. You don't understand a situation until you understand "how come?"

Also, when the class or book is done right, it's really INTERESTING.

I love history! It's always been my favorite subject...that and literature. But anyway it means that if people refuse to look at the mistakes people made in the past that led to horrible times, it's doomed to happen again.

I agree with the quote strongly. Sadly we repeat it often enough even with a study of history.

I love history ... in it are the answers to many of the questions we ask today. In science we learn "how", but in history we learn something even more important ,,,, "why".

i think is an excellent quote because one should learn from the past. that is how we evolve and improve. albert einstien once say "knowledge is learned from experience"......i do not enjoy all history, factual history bores me but the unknown and debatable stuff i find more entertaining. if it is fact what do i have to figure out.

I do agree with it, it's true, if you don't learn form your mistakes, you'll keep making the same ones over and over again. I guess history is pretty cool, i like learning about stuff like that.

I don't know. I think even if you do know history you'll repeat it. But maybe I'll be better the second time... or third... or fiftyith.
