Because if they thought for themselves, they would see that their religious text is full of flaws and contradictions, and they don't want to admit anything about their religion could possibly be wrong.

We are not. And neither is God. He does not want robots that can not think for themselves.
And if more would feed their thoughts and questions through the Jesus filter- this world be far, far better.
Jesus is the most compassionate, caring, loving person that ever lived on this earth. There was nothing He did not do for others- from healing the blind to showing others how to live.
Get to know Him, through the Bible, and you will see what Christians mean when we say He is everything to us.
If we do fall short, it is in no way an inflection upon Him, but our own shortcomings.

I'm not sure that you mean by "thinking for themselves".
A Christian, by definition of the term, is trying to be a "little Christ" (I.E.: a little Jesus, because that is what the term means). If I follow the teachings of Jesus only when Jesus just so happens to agree with me, then I an not really following Jesus, I am simply following myself.
If you assume that Jesus is God, and that God knows more than any human ever could, then why would you argue with God? Whom do you think would win?

Why do people make such generalizations?
Nothing is wrong with having thoughts and ideas. God gave us the ability to think and reason. God says in His word "come, let us reason together!" If you do not know Jesus as your savior, or believe the bible is God's word, then of course you're not going to run everything through "Him" first.
What you believe is your business. For myself, I have become a wiser, happier, more peaceful person after studying the bible for ten years. My life is much better ordered and I make better choices. Because His ways are far superior to my ways. I have come to love Jesus and believe the bible to be God's inspired word.
If that isn't what you desire to do....okay.

Because logical though reveals that they are talking a load of bollocks and just making stuff up as they go along. There is no god. Say no to jesus.

You clearly have no true knowledge of The Christian Faith. I do not know a single Christian, who is truly of The Christian Faith, who dose not think for themselves. God dose not want those of his people to be mindless robots. God makes the rules and we of The Faith try our best to follow them, But there is great latitude in personal life, learning, and study of all of God's creation. Much to learn in art, science, literature...ect,etc... God's people are free to explore all of God's universe.

Don't single us all out. Not everyone in a group has the same thoughts. I have ideas of my own.

Because they are convinced that if we don't all do the same things & think the same things at the same time, we will all go to hell & burn forever. Got news for them...this IS hell! They are preaching about repenting so we won't go to a place that we are all already in!
