If you want to be involved in financial audits, then you would need to qualify as an 'Accountant'. Probably, Chartered or Certified if you want to carry out statutory audits on companies. As an Accountant, you would have other choices though. An extrovert or artistic type probably wouldn't suit this type of work.

As you can see from the above responses it is not a job for everyone. To some I guess it would seem like chewing on aluminum foil all day.
On the other hand I find it quite enjoyable. To start with the pay is pretty good (not in same class as a doctor but still not too bad). It takes a fairly intelligent person to be an auditor and you will often find yourself being sought out for advice from others.
You should be aware that there are many different types of auditor and finding a niche that fits makes the job enjoyable.
There are the typical financial auditors that people generally think of when the term auditor is used. They do financial statement audits and offer opinions about a compnies financial statement. Stuff like do the financial reports of the company fairly report the financial activities and position of the company. (Personally I HATE that type of auditing)
There are also internal auditors. They typically check the work of others to verify that employees and managers are following the rules of the company (policies and procedures) and look for ways to imrove the efficiency and effectiveness of the company's operations.
There are also IT auditors. They would typically monitor, check and review a company's computers and computer network for security weaknesses.
It normally takes a college degree to be an auditor. A certification is also very helpful. Common certifications include CPA (certified public accountant) CIA (certified internal auditor) and CISA (certified information systems auditor)
Back to your question, is it enjoyable? It really depends on the individual. If you enjoy being in a position where seek your advice, can make a change in the way a company does things, work independently, make decent money, and pay attention to detail, then being an auditor may be enjoyable. However if you dislike office work then it is NOT the job for you.
Hope this helps
(Being an auditor is not just about numbers as many believe)

Accounting is an interesting work, and auditing is the verification of somebody's work... it depends on one's interest whether it is enjoyable or not. So far I understood it is not very enjoyable but it is interesting if you have that special nature of investigative mind?
