Chewing ice is often a sign of anemia. It's also horrible for the enamel on your teeth. So maybe you're not quite healthy and need to get a checkup.

Because it makes the gum harder and tricks you into thinking it's just like a new stick of gum and will therefore last longer.

Because the gums have lots of nerves that can only be soothed by very cold temperatures. Read your physiology book.
