You are correct... a major confrontation is suppose to occur in Israel... King of the North and King of the South and Meddiggo is where Armageddon is to occur as well (the meeting of good and evil in mass forces).. most of this is in the book of Daniel.
However, as one person noted, there are other prophesies that must occur though we are pretty close I would say to the end, yes. Remember, we must see an Anti-Christ come up and take over the masses and their thoughts against Christians (think someone like Hitler... he had people raving like lunatics) and we must see the United Nations (they are the beast depicted in Revelation), truly unite on a front like never before. Revelation is sketchy as to exact details-it was written for all from an age where they had never seen weapons of mass destruction (he depicts lions breathing fire of yellow, etc)
Interesting some of the comments I read before I am posting my answer.. many doubt.. and this is also a prophesy they are fulfilling- not everyone has true faith or the belief that the Bible is truly inspired by God. Anyway, Jesus said that those that understood would lift their heads because they would know he was near.
Kudos to you in noticing the "signs of the times" and being alert... remember, many will doubt Jesus' words, but it will occur "just like a thief in the night". I don't think we were told this to alarm us, but warn us to always guard our thoughts and actions because we will be judged by everything we do in our short time on earth.
God Bless!

Armageddon may be coming. No one wins in a war. Property can be restored, but even a lifetime is not long enough to resolve grief over a lost loved one.
Since Muslims, Jews and Christians believe in the messiah, maybe praying for the messiah to come and bring lasting peace before the world destroys itself would be a win-win-win solution

You know what is really sad? That it is man and man-made religions that will bring about the end of days - not a real God!
If you were brought up to believe that everything is going to end and you believe that with your whole being, then you are predisposed to making it happen - irrespective of whether there is or there is not god!
If there is an armageddon, I strongly think it will be of man's doing (religious man that is) and not due to some master plan by a god.
My thoughts....

No. Armaggedon will not take place until after the seven year tribulation period on earth, which has not yet begun. This seven year count-down will most likely occur after the rapture of the church, when Jesus removes His "church" from the earth. Then the anti-christ will come forth...etc. etc., as Revelation foretells.
The rapture, however, may be close. The signs are sure around!

Not for at least 1007 years even if the Rapture of The Church happened right now. Got to go through the Tribulation and Christ's thousand year reign here on earth first.

If it comes you know who will start it.
I think Mel Gibson made a little sense.
I don't want to be dragged into a war for Israel. Let them fight their own fights.
