Don't worry, you can fight it.However never tell a cop or judge they were wrong! It never goes well.First, admit your guilt and ask if the judge will wave the points and allow you to just pay the fine. That's all they really want, your money.Tell the judge it was a simple mistake and you are trying to keep a clean record. If th judge asks you how many points you have on your license, don't ever lie.He will have your record in front of him(usually on a monitor).Let him do the talking and be respectful, like talking to a king.Remember, he has your license and can in force the law, until you leave the court room.Come to court at least 45 min. early and listen to the cases before you, it helps to read the judge.good luck.

All these people are stupid. Just because there is a stop sign doesn't mean it should be there. In this case, a stop sign didn't make sense. This guy was not careless or unsafe. He did not threaten the safety of himself or others. In this case, it is just the city earning a paycheck at his expense. Don't get me wrong... I think stop signs are useful in the right places... where there is a blind curve or heavy pedestrian traffic. But a stop at an L turn is more a cash register than a safety precaution.
These people need to realize that the law isn't absolute and sometimes has different motives than our well being.

You are joking right? A stop sign means stop. It does not mean stop if you feel like it, or stop only if you think you have to. It is the same as a red light. You do not just drive through a red light because there are no cars. Go back to driving school as you have obviously missed some things. I would not be suprised if your insurance goes up now either. And man, doing this especially when there is a cop behind you? What were you thinking.

Unfortunatly you have been had. Cop will say a stop is just that, STOP. Look, people do this all the time I know, you got a cop that was either low on quota, or he gave you the less of another violation or he was having a bad day. I got nailed for crossing a white line on the right side of the highway, an obscure violation which I fought and lost. Pay the fine and move on is the best I can give!

You're out of luck on completely beating it. Unfortunately, the rules of the road require you to bring your vehicle to a complete stop at any stop sign, regardless of where it's located, the road conditions, or other traffic.
You might be able to go on into court and give your explanation, and the judge may be nice to you by slashing the cost of your ticket, and taking off the court costs.
I got a tricky ticket like the one you describe once - was coming off an exit ramp at 50MPH posted speed, onto a road. No speed limit sign was posted until 1/4 mi off of the highway, at which point the speed limit dropped to 35. A cop caught me, and I took the ticket, but in court, I went to try and get out of it. I explained to the judge that there is no way you can tell the speed limit will change unless you memorize every general speed limit as it applies to specific type of roads in the city. He saw my point, and because I had no other tickets, I got everything wiped down from over $150 with court costs to $35. So...it can work in your favor.

Yes, you should have had to stop - there's a stop sign there. It may not be clear to you, but that stop sign is there for a reason. The cop was right behind you, no way are you going to be able to argue it. So pay the price, and if it really bugs you, use some other street from now on.

Was there a stop sign? Yes.
Does the law state that you're REQUIRED to come to a complete stop at a stop sign? Yes.
Did you come to a complete stop? No.
Did a police officer see you roll through the stop sign? Yes.
Was he in fact, directly BEHIND you when you failed to stop as required by LAW? Yes.
What will the judge do when you attempt to take this to court for dismissal? LAUGH while he's telling you to PAY your fine, especally when you enlighten him by telling him "there is no way that I should even have to stop"
Look genius, your best bet is to go to traffic school and get this taken off your record, pay the fine and come to a complete stop at the next stop sign you see.
Some people can rationalize ANYTHING.....

The stop sign, I suspect, was put there for a reason. Personally, I watch for cops and stop at stop signs whether or not a cop is there. I don't pretend to know more about public safety than the experts.

you must make a complete stop at a stopsign, hense the term "stop sign" , doesnt matter if its 3 am and your on a back road and there are no cars withen sight you still must completly stop before you drive off. (maybe we can create a new sign in your honar "only partially stop and keep moving" we will make it blue or something..LOL These rules are taught in drivers education, and when you get your permit. You will 100% hands down lose if you fight it. sorry just the facts.

If it has a white border around it, it is optional. HAHAHAHAHAHA LMAO. The The law states that upon reaching the designated stopping point prior to the stop sign, all forward motions of the vehicle must cease. Period, nothing about options, no rolling (California stops,) etc.
