C'mon, the theists get bashed, the athiests get bashed: why don't us agnostics get our commuppins? I want to be discriminated against, hated, and altogether put down as a human being too!

You know, this question seems like it might get me reported...

For all intents and purposes, I include Ignosticism as a subsection (a specific subsection) of agnosticism, so don't feel left out. If Christians can use the general term to apply to Protestants and Catholics, the term agnostic can apply to multiple beliefs. I'm an apathetic agnostic myself, after all.

Oiy. Stop answering people, there's just way too many good answers, I don't want to be forced to choose! I may have to put this one to vote though, there's a lot of love and hate going on here. Now we fence sitters (much different from flip-floppers?) get to sit up here and say "Look at our question, it's filled with love despite being about hate" and laugh at how much better we are than the athiests and the thiests. But in doing such, do we not fall backwards off the fence and get laughed at by those we claimed to be so far above?! Alas! The righteous are those who aren't allowed to take credit for it.

Well, at least you agnostics are acknowledged as a group here. We ignostics (with an I) don't even seem to exist.

You agnostics are sick! Make up your mind! Either you believe or you don't believe! Get off the fence!

Better now? :-)

I think the biggest reason agnostics are not picked on is because everyone can relate. No matter what you believe (or don't believe), everyone has doubts. It's human. So to some extent I think we probably all feel kinship with agnostics. It's the polar opposites who clash.

When dealing with agnostics, I think most atheists don't care & are more interested in debating the God exists/doesn't exist issue and the direct repercussions of that than in debating whether you shopuld decide one way or the other. Theists do care, but don't want to ruin a later opportunity to witness to you by alienting you. So the only thign that really illicits a response is a strong opinion - that's why there is little trash talking about agnostics.

Of course, like all of my posts this is based on my opinions & beliefs. That makes it worth every penny you paid for it.

LOL!!! I too am agnostic and believe me I get bashed and mashed all the time. Mostly with the questioning faith is a Sin stuff. I also get that God doesn't exist stuff from the Atheists. I like being in the middle and perhaps that's why we don't take as much of a beating as others do. We try to moderate the effects of the two extremes Reilgious and Atheist. PEACE!

I don't hate you, but if it will make you feel better I think that agnosticism is a very poor position to hold to.

Generally I think agnostics are either people who would have been atheists if they didn't desperately want there to be a God or nihilists.

Edit: Ignosticism is NOT a "denomination" of agnosticism.

A lot of people [believe] Jesus existed, but not that he was the son of god. [which isnt even my question] Moreover there's a lot of evidence to say that Mr. Washington existed,[and even as much and more Christ did] and not a lot of evidence to say he didn't exist. Finally, assuming that we are on the fence either way, Ockham's razor doesn't say that it's a simpler theory for us to assume that Washington didn't exist, considering that he was a person important to history. yes and george was influenced by Jesus another very historical One that has and is still importan more so then george was while alive and president. not trying to argue against george, im asking why any does believe by the very same arguments that can be applied ot Christ but dont believe?

You damn fence sitters are all alike. ...all high and mighty up there on that fence acting like "oh, well, we can't claim to know anything about god, so I'll pretend I have no position".

Wooses.

We all know you're really just atheists who don't want to admit it because 'agnostic' sounds less antagonistic.
