Ok let's see, I don't have a criminal record so i'm obeying the laws, check
I have a drivers license and auto insurance, check.
I speak english, check.
I work and pay taxes, check.
Mhhhh.... what else, i hear mexicans have to assimilate, but i don't know what else i need to do to assimilate correctly.
Ohhh yeah i got it, i'm still eating mexican food, how idiotic of me, i need to eat American food, I'm not in Mexico anymore, ok, mhhh....
Damn I can seem to wipe this brown skin off, that won't help my assimilation, darn it.

Ok, all of those things are good. Really, but do you claim to be an American or a Mexican? Which flag do you fly? If you are with us, welcome. If you fly that rag of a flag and claim to be Mexican before you are American, then we don't have any use for you. I hope that you chose us.

Don't know about you personally, but these are some of the ways other than you mentioned regarding assimilation.
Instead of putting I Love Mexico on your car or truck, how about I love the USA.
Instead of waving the Mexican Flag or displaying it on house or vehicle, how about using the American flag instead.
Instead of calling yourself a Mexican American, how about calling yourself an American Mexican, or better still, an American.
These are just a few, there are many more.
