Looks like christians have a lot of excuses for not being able to back up their position.

I particularly like the first "answerer" who says that she has proof, but then refuses to provide it. Coward.

Your logic is not sound. Not being able to "prove" the existence of God does not mean that God does not exist. Consider that until mankind's science sufficiently evolved, people used to think the world was flat. No evidence existed to prove that the world was actually spherical (round in a 3-D sense). Nobody at that time could prove that the world is round, as we now know. A better question would be how can a finite being with a primative mind (humans) understand or conceive of God, who by definition is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (everywhere), and exists beyond the limitations of time and space? An honest, thorough quest for the answer you seek will yield most accurate results!

Your logic is partially flawed: the absence of evidence is not proof of absence. It's evidence of absence, but not proof.

Anyway, the theory that god is real that has evidence is simple: something had to come first. Whatever it is that came first is god. If you say that time is immortal, that nothing came first, there's no such thing, then we have difficulty defining causality. I mean if you go back to the big bang arguement, what made the big bang come into existence? If literally the big bang was the first thing ever, nothing caused it, etc etc, then the Big bang is god, and any theories about god are kind of bunk because we've just shown what god is, and those theories aren't it.

In short, I'm agnostic because there's no proof either way, and really, there's no good reason why being athiest is any better than being agnostic.

This is not preaching. But consider the original manuscripts. They were written many, many years apart. This is scientifically proven.
the scroll of Job, The book of Job in the bible. Keep in mind that the scientific level that we know of was not there. This book was written at around the time of Moses. God speaks to Job about the universe and how it works. Also in the same book God talks about how the dinosaurs lived. Now~ in the book of Psalm, chapter 22.
This chapter describes how Jesus would be sacrificed, it even describes how the Roman soldiers would gamble for his clothes, all this, predicted about a thousand years before the fact.
You can not read the entire bible with understanding and still dispute the fact that God is not real. You can't.
This proof is logical. How would you dispute the fact, scientifically.

I was once going on the road and suddenly i saw this sports car being born put no where. It was a great car and very stylish. Man could it drive. There was no driver and took a few truns around me and then stoped. The doors opened and i sat inside. it had the best seat covers id ever know and it had all the gadgets u could dream about. I just drove off on a long drive.

Moral of the story: Logic says who made that car. I mean all that sopistication and gadgets how can they be born out the air with out some one making and designing them.

Now to ur question: Man is the most sopisticated machine that we have till yet known. It is not possible that all the sopictication came about by accident. There is only one ans and everyone know it in his heart. Some are just hiding it.

No you can't, but your conclusion has no foundation in logic at all. Not being able to prove a positive does not prove a negative. You cannot prove that God does not exist, and were you to try, you'd need to take a couple of logic and philosophy classes first.

The only way you could prove God *does* exist would be if He were to come on down and submit Himself to empirical examination.

Frankly I don't think He's interested. And if the bible is any indication of His mindset, it would be both counterproductive and useless. For one, with proof, there is no need of faith, yet the Bible says the without faith, no one can please God. For two, it is written that even when faced with overwhelming evidence, many people would still deny God's authority over them. So there's nothing to be gained either way.

Have fun.

A theory is something there is no real proof of. Such as evolution. There is all kinds of proof that God is real but none that says evolution is. Just look around you for proof that God exists. If you need more, look at a simple mousetrap. Take just one piece of it and it will not work. Then look at your eye. Take just one part of it out and you cannot see. Had to be made as one with the rest of you or you would not function. Evolution says you evolved, that different things just happened as you needed them so where is the proof of that? There is no proof and anyone that says there is any is a liar.

This a question that keeps popping up, even though we all know there's no "evidence" that will satisfy the questioner.

But perhaps we can simply agree that empirical "evidence" is not required for something to be real. Oftentimes only personal experience can reveal reality.

Examples:
- You can't convince someone that love is real, until they fall in love for the first time.
- No one can prove heartache, until it happens to you.
- Addiction makes no sense at all, until you're the one with it.

Each of these can be witnessed in others, but can't be "proven" by anything other than their lived example. And so it is with God. If you want proof, then find someone you know and trust who was completely lost in life, but managed to find redemption and purpose with God's help. And, there's your "evidence."

Is God real? How can I know for sure that God is real?

Question: "Is God real? How can I know for sure that God is real?"

Answer: We know that God is real because He has revealed Himself to us in three ways: in creation, in His Word, and in His Son, Jesus Christ.

The most basic proof of God’s existence is simply what He has made. “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that [unbelievers] are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). “The heavens declare the glory of God / And the firmament sheweth His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

If I found a wristwatch in the middle of a field, I would not assume that it just “appeared” out of nowhere or that it had always existed. Based on the watch’s design, I would assume it had a designer. But I see far greater design and precision in the world around us. Our measurement of time is not based on wristwatches, but on God’s handiwork—the regular rotation of the earth (and the radioactive properties of the cesium-133 atom). The universe displays great design, and this argues for a Great Designer.

If I found an encoded message, I would seek out a cryptographer to help break the code. My assumption would be that there is an intelligent sender of the message, someone who created the code. How complex is the DNA “code” that we carry in every cell of our bodies? Does not the complexity and purpose of DNA argue for an Intelligent Writer of the code?

Not only has God made an intricate and finely tuned physical world, He has also instilled a sense of eternity in the heart of every person (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Mankind has an innate perception that there is more to life than meets the eye, that there is an existence higher than this earthly routine. Our sense of eternity manifests itself in at least two ways: law-making and worship.

Every civilization throughout history has valued certain moral laws, which are surprisingly similar from culture to culture. For example, the ideal of love is universally esteemed, while the act of lying is universally condemned. This common morality—this global understanding of right and wrong—points to a Supreme Moral Being who gave us such scruples.

In the same way, people all over the world, regardless of culture, have always cultivated a system of worship. The object of worship may vary, but the sense of a “higher power” is an undeniable part of being human. Our propensity to worship accords with the fact that God created us “in His own image” (Genesis 1:27).

God has also revealed Himself to us through His Word, the Bible. Throughout scripture, the existence of God is treated as a self-evident fact (Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14). When Benjamin Franklin wrote his Autobiography, he did not waste time trying to prove his own existence. Likewise, God does not spend much time proving His existence in His book. The life-changing nature of the Bible, its integrity, and the miracles which accompanied its writing should be enough to warrant a closer look.

The third way in which God revealed Himself is through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 14:6-11). “In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:1, 14). In Jesus Christ “dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9).

In Jesus’ amazing life, He kept the entire Old Testament law perfectly and fulfilled the prophecies concerning the Messiah (Matthew 5:17). He performed countless acts of compassion and public miracles to authenticate His message and bear witness to His deity (John 21:24-25). Then, three days after His crucifixion, He rose from the dead, a fact affirmed by hundreds of eyewitnesses (1 Corinthians 15:6). The historical record abounds with “proof” of who Jesus is. As the Apostle Paul said, “This thing was not done in a corner” (Acts 26:26).

We realize that there will always be skeptics who have their own ideas concerning God and will read the evidence accordingly. And there will be some whom no amount of proof will convince (Psalm 14:1). It all comes down to faith (Hebrews 11:6).

Actually, you are wrong! Tell me where life saving miracles come from? When people are in live or death situations and the doctors say they won't make it and then they do!? It's called Prayer and It works! God is real! It don't matter if you can't see him or not! You can't see air but you believe in it cuz u feel it or hear it right? well, that's the same way with god. When I go to church I can feel him in our church! I know he is real. How come everytime people prayer for things it happens? I could go on and on forever to prove to you that he is real! Ummmm...just to let you know everybody is saying Jesus is coming soon so you might want to get your act together usless you want to go to hell...... Sorry I'm so defincive but I get mad when people say that because they will find out pretty soon that he is real!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Jesus came back from the dead and appeared to over 500 witnesses (according to Paul) to prove that he was alive again. maybe Jesus knows something about the afterlife that we do not?

And many of these witnesses refused to take back their story even while they were being tortured to death (if they had said that it was all a joke, then Christianity would have died out with the first generation).

Wouldn't a liar recant his story to save his own skin? What good does fame or power do to a dead guy?

If you do not believe the witnesses, then you will not believe even if one were to return from the dead and slap you in the face (paraphrasing Jesus), so why bother arguing with you?
